Tacoma oil level sensor

If this is the wrong section, please let me know, or feel free to move it. Anyway, I recently purchased one of the
Veepeak OBDCheck BLE OBD readers, and love it. However, I see the Tacoma doesn't have an oil pressure sender other than a simple idiot light that only comes on after the engine is destroyed. I did see that the PIDs included an engine oil level sensor switch, but I can't find much info online other than the replacement part.

Can anyone tell me more about this? Does it show when the motor is somewhat low on oil, or does it come on only when the crankcase is empty?

The level light goes ON when the level is below established reference line.

 

Thank you. Is there any way of knowing what that referenced line is, approximately? Most things like my tractor have a 1 quart low mark, for example. Googling doesn't seem to return any relevant information on this.

 

Probably somewhere between 1-2 qtrs.
I'm planning to change the oil today and will experiment will the level sensor.

Checked the switch operation with no oil and ignition On. Still shows zero (OFF).
Perhaps the engine should be running.

 

When I change my oil again, I'll add oil until it's a quart low, and see if the switch is on. If I recall correctly, the capacity is about 6 quarts, so I'll put in the 5 quart bottle and see what happens when I start the engine.
It would be nice if it lit off at a quart low, and not, as I suspect, when it's nearly empty, making it as useless as the pressure idiot light and transmission over-temperature light, which only light up AFTER the damage is done and the engine or tranny is destroyed.
