Flying home today, first layover in Newark then on to LAX.

Taxing on the runway to take off for Newark and ATC tells us we have to wait on the tarmac for an hour and a half, so we are going to miss our connecting flight

Yeah River finally passed out after making us public enemy number one in here I'm sure, luckily Sofia is doing well with her tablet and shows. Thank fucking jeebus we bit the bullet on 1st class for this leg of the journey, if we were stuck in the cramped economy seats with the kids for this I'd have pulled the emergency door off by now

1st class with an infant, that should actually be illegal, the people that paid for first class are gonna launch a first class action suit against you for that one if they don't outright separate your head from your body with their bare hands first

Emergency exit was the right answer

I'm actually going to write letters to every airline.. except Spirit of course, demanding that they disallow it. In fact I want penalties, like instant ejection, banned for life. In fact if you have a child under 8 Spirit should be the only airline you can take.

At this point I would gladly take an ejection seat, preferably in the direction of an establishment with liquor

It's supposed to just be a 45 min flight so I don't think they're equipped, one of those little express planes

Oh that's lame, even worse that you're on the tarmac for longer than the flight

I could understand a 20% or so markup, it I just found out this shop is wanting to charge basically a 100% markup for the fan bracket. There’s a similar markup for the fan. I know we’ve covered this before and I realise they’re a business that has to make money, but that doesn’t make it seem any less like price gouging to me.

I might just have to take the L on this one since I panicked and had it towed to a shop.

Yea I understand they have to keep the lights on, but that just seemed extreme.

It'd probably hurt a little more for you to learn that...the pricing you see online is retail

That's a big box store part (I mean, Gates is good stuff but big box stores carry them as well as other brands)

The shop gets a bigger discount on said parts than you would as a customer, so they're making quite a bit more than that 100% mark-up you mention

I think I’ll just tell them to leave it outside on Monday. I might still have to eat their $140 diagnosis fee, but that’s my fault for not having it towed home in the first place. I thought about brining up the markup, but they also have my truck there, so I don’t want them to get angry and do something weird.

It's better than my military discount for sure

I ended up going on a quick run with the owner I make parts for (getting to know the dude some) and we went to Napa I think it was...got to see some of the discounts firsthand

His shop is the second largest account in the entire town with that store, only coming behind the main shop that services all the city vehicles, school busses, etc

Not bad for a small shop
