The tailgate bushing on my December 2015 build Tacoma just broke and I went straight for the GM Part # 819-5709-1 from Napa. The price was $15.49. It is a tight fit pushing it on, but not difficult. The dampener works perfectly again now.

The overall width of the part is a little smaller than the old one, but it still works.

Appreciate the tip! I bought my 2016 in October of 2015 so, no doubt it was an early build. The bushing crapped out last week and I found this post, picked up the part from Napa and it worked like a champ!

Just recieved the early 2016 Bushing from Shapeways for my Tacoma. Honest review....Not impressed. Seems like its made out of wood, too much slack making the assist useless. Shapeways also makes you pay all these different fees to speed up the process NOT WORTH IT. All in all it cost me over $30 to get this bushing and wish I would have saved it for the updated assy.

20240416_152916.jpg @tacitos this is an inferior product. Mine lasted 5 or 6 tailgate open/closing cycles until it busted. Shapeways refunded my money, thankfully. I purchased the above mentioned NAPA Bushing and it works perfect. @tacitos your product defiently needs some updating and revision.

Any chance you’d share the car file so I can print at work? Thanks

    tAc016sR5,
I am really curious to know if your bushing from NAPA has held up. For me it's either your solution or losing part of a day for the bumper removal and hinge replacement. Hoping it worked well for you.
    Thanks

I used the GM part also and it works perfectly. It took a little force to get in but it looks perfect and operates perfect. For all I know, the OEM part would feel the same when installing

    Sub’d. Glad I found this thread…
Anyone else with the GM bushing have any updates? Want to get one but not if I only get a few “open and closes”…

Yeah, I am not happy about it because it was like $25. It was a really tight fit, thinking about buying another and heating it up with my gun before installing, then maybe shoot it with a can of dust off upside down. I am not what other option we have.

How long have you had yours? Mine was definitely a snug fit and I am sure I stress crack it. I got a new one and when I’m ready I will heat it up before or during installation, using the part it mayes with as a mold. That should work

My original bushing failed after 5 years. My Shapeways part lasted about 3 years, but a lot less use. I had ordered two of the Shapeways parts so put in the second one today. I’d like to try the GM part, it’s cheap compared to the 3D printed part, but the reviews seem mixed. So any updates on that specifically? My Taco is a November 2015 build.

Hi Everyone, Sorry I haven't been on here for a while. Life gets in the way and all that.

I regret to inform you that the vendor (Shapeways) I set up to manufacture and deliver these Bushings declared Bankruptcy this month. Therefore all sales and production has come to a halt.

The good news is I still have the 3D file and rest assured I'm working on rebooting production with a new supplier. While I'm at it, I'm taking all the feedback and will work on improving the design to hopefully make it more robust and durable.

The BK caught me by surprise, but it was a great run. I will keep you all posted.

This next chapter I would like to localize production to shorten delivery times. If you know any 3D printing services in the South East, please let me know.

Sadly after 8 years of use, my bushing broke this past week as well. As recommended above, went to Napa and picked up part 819-5709-1. A little snug but once installed I’ve had no issues. Excited to see what tacitos comes up with, but in the meantime would recommend the Napa part if needed.

FYI for all. The NAPA part 819-5709-1 is available form other retailers as well since it’s a Dorman part 38706. I picked it up from Amazon since it was less expensive than Napa by about ~$5. Link included:

That Amazon part you linked isn’t cheap. There’s another brand (a knockoff of Dorman’s knockoff of a GM part??) with higher review star ratings that’s half the price - for a pair of bushings. But thanks for the link.

It appears that shapeways went backrupt in July 2024, is the bushing available anywhere else?
