'11 Reg cab 4x4 Bilsteins and wheels

To begin with I am wanting to level my truck. Was going to do the spacers but from reading forums and many threads etc I dont want to risk the damage that could be caused. I only have slightly less that 600 miles on it so far.

So I walk into a local tire shop where a few friends work and see a sharp looking tire wheel combo sitting on the floor. I tell my friend to bad those wont fit on my truck. He tells me they will as they were on a new TRD. I ask do you have a complete set all mounted and balanced and he said yes. Long story short the wheels would not fit on the TRD due to clearance problems with the calipers.

So the wheels are the 18x9" Gear Alloy 719MB Backcountry's with 275/70 R18 Nitto Terra Grapplers. I had them put one on the front to check clearence. The outer edge of the tire just catches the a front area of inner fender shield when and a piece of the mudflap. This is with stock suspension.

So my plan I guess is to get the Bilstein 5100's up front and the diff. drop kit. I was also going to get the rear Bilsteins and AAL's. So a question.... If I only go 1.75 on front, do I really need the rears and AAL's? I can use stock springs? And it appears that the next setting is 2.5" and with that I would need to get the rears and AAL's, correct and probably springs for the front?

I can get a fairly good deal on the wheels and tires with TPMS installed since they were installed and have been slightly damaged on the backside from the brake calipers. From what I was told the TRD's come with larger brake calipers? They could not rotate the wheels after installed but tried anyway and damaged them a little. I hate to miss this deal but am afraid that I may still have clearence issues at 1.75" up front and really do not want to do any modding of the wells etc. Thoughts? I asked the guy at the tire store and sounded like they would put a little smaller tire on if I wanted, so is another option.

It was almost like a setup when I walked in and seen those wheels and they just happend to fit my truck also and they are black and silver like my truck, so, the dlemma. Decisions. I told the guy to go ahead and order the shocks anyway since I want to level it up anyway and then we can see how the wheels and tires fit and go from there. Thanks for your time.

 

I just got mine, exact same setup. 18x9 719MB's and 275/70/18 Grapplers. Where exactly on the rim did they show rubbing? I just measured everything on my TRD after reading this and I only see one small chance of a possibility that it could rub a caliper. Would really like to know if you dont mind. Ordering a lift today and trying to get everything together.

Hi Shawn.

Where it was rubbing was on the outer edge of the tire. they mounted 1 wheel/tire on the left front, so turn to the right the outer edge would hit about middle of the inner fender shield, turned to the left the read outer edge of the tire would hit the mudflap. I think if a guy did a 3" it may clear, but on dips etc would probably hit.

I changed what I am going to use for tires now because I really dont want to trim anything and dont really want to lift it higher. Am getting a 265/60 18 Nitto Dura Grapplers. They just slightly bigger so shouldnt have to do a speedo recal or anything.

 

Ok...ok, I was fixated on the part where you said the wheel rubs on the caliper on the TRD.

You made me pee my pants a little then I went out to measure because sitting here in my house Im thinking NO WAY theres just no way ......so @ 2am I go out with a flashlight and a tape and start measuring backspacing and junk.

Anyway well Im glad you got it all figured out. Ill tell you The 719MB is a slick looking wheel. The German guy that does all my tire work here in Germany loved them. Couldnt stop talking about them and what I was going to do to the TACO. When he rolled my wheels out to my truck he said "das ist Terminator wheel" hahaha. I said uhhh ya sure....uhhh huh hahaahah. He's a good guy!

So because I was still pissing my pants today even after all the measurments I took.......I lifted up the front and mounted one on the left to check for sure all of the clearance. I knew that I was going to have to trim/remove stuff for tire clearance so I expected it. And ya it rubs like a bitch even lifted the front more with the jack to simulate 3" of lift. So ya I got some trimming and some welding to do. Wouldnt be the first time Ive had to do it so whatever.

As far as the wheels clearing the caliper and such......NO PROBLAMO! Fits perfectly.

Now ......order my lift! Cant wait.

Do you have any pictures of your whole truck? I have an access cab magnetic grey tacoma and I can not decide on rims! I am thinking 20" fuel hostage black rims with 305/55 Nitto Trail Grapplers. Or possibly the BMF Novakane's.....but they are $500 more.

 

Did ya get the lift yet?
I got into the shop today and got mine leveled and wheels installed. Turned out better than I thought it would.
Ended up using Nitto Dura Grapplers. 265/60 18

Lookin good man! How do you like the wheels and tires? I think they are pretty slick! One thing I noticed is the outside is painted or powder coated very nice but the INBRD portion of the wheel is very lightly coated, can see the aluminum through the black. No big deal but Im kinda anal about that kinda stuff so I taped off all the holes and shot mine to coat everything.
Anyway, my lift hasnt arrived yet but I did order it 2 days ago. It will take a while to arrive in Germany. My wheels and tires took close to 6 weeks. I called ProComp and asked what the shipping weight was on the Stage II lift.....277 pounds and 6 boxes. That is gonna hurt the credit card a bit!! Ohh well. Ill post up when I get'r all done.
