    Morning all:

 on your friends Camaro Kurt!

So much for the tech advice on the computer!
LOTS of posts said to replace the small secondary screw on a Holley base plate with a 10-32 allen head MACHINE SCREW so that you can tune the secondaries without having to remove the carb every time, one problem, the lever on the linkage hits the head of the screw and won't allow the secondaries to fully open unless a really long one is installed, which was never mentioned. OK, plan B, ordered some 10-32 SS SET SCREWS that use the allen head wrenches, those will work no matter what length, no one mentioned using them, maybe there's a reason, I'll find out shortly!

Have you checked with Holley https://www.holley.com/products/fuel_systems/carburetors/

They have small parts such as baseplate screws and throttle plate screws available . Just call their tech line and speak to a Holley tech person . Do you also have the carb list # or the cfm rating ????

Good advice @US Marine ! And good luck @boatswain !

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! It was good to get to a show again, even if I did lose my friend while we wandered. I was amazed I couldn't even locate his car - how do you miss a Burnt Orange 300Z?

Fiascos continue on the home front; the whole pool light will be replaced, and I'm putting a 12V in as a replacement (I hope). I will have to install it's transformer/remote in a new box by the pool controls, but wire is wire, and that part should not care. So, the LED replacement bulb goes back. This one has the same remote, but ALSO a phone app, so if RF doesn't work from the remotes, I hope that should. Diving board comes off this afternoon to get at wiring.

And wife has Spectrum coming at 11 because our internet speed has gone to trash. It takes a minimum of 1 minute to upload each of those show pics, which is why it takes so long.

The stock screws are available, using the stock slotted screw requires the carb to be removed in order to adjust the secondary throttle plates. with the minor mod that I am doing I can adjust them all I want without removing the carb every time. I think the original screws are made of steel, the one we just drilled out looked like a factory steel screw, once there are in there for quite a while without being moved they are almost impossible to turn for adjustment or removal.
I have 2 #3246 780cfm Holley's that are correct for the car, one of them is on the car, 2 #3417 830cfm Holley that is a NASCAR carb and also a correct carb for the car, and 1 #3418 Holley 830cfm that was used on some of the 427 corvettes, I plan on changing that secondary screw on all of them.
If I use short 10-32 allen head set screws I could tuck them up in the base plate like the originals and still access the head with an allen wrench, with longer ones I can have as much as i want sticking out below the base without the secondary linkage hitting it.
One thing, the original slotted Holley screws are slightly spread apart at the screw slot so they bind and don't move easily, I will need to put a MILD thread locker on the screws that I am replacing them with, NBD and will probably help stop galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals, also going to SS screws should also help.
Don't forget, I'm playing with 50+ year old carbs, not new ones!

    Morning all:
Needed to edit my last post, I have two #3417 Holley's, not 1, never enough carbs! :D
The #3246's are readily available, the #3417's are rare.

I learned about this modification at a Holley sponsored tuning clinic - in 1969 in Springfield, Mo at the old "Mother's Speed Shop". Works perfectly.... there were "tuners" of the day that espoused DRILLING HOLES(!) in the secondary plates as a means of adding idle air while the primary blade was at its "sweet spot". If you check - there are many intake manifold castings that already have a relief directly under the screw location. I'm lazy in my old age and simply use a longer machine screw with the head cut off to replace the slotted factory part - leaving enough protrusion under the throttle plate to quickly adjust it with needle nose pliers.

I have found it difficult to convince various individuals that the screw is there - and even more difficult to keep newbee's from messing with the primary screw while you get the engine into idle range... with the primary blade positioned on the transfer slot.

Here's my carburetor that's on my 427sbc , it's a Holley Ultra XP 950cfm from AED performance carbs . It was custom built to my specs and wet flow dynoed to over 1000cfm
