I'm sure they will. Not everyone cares about these things the same way. Some people will never tow, use the truck in cold weather or even look at the fuel economy screen in the radio. It doesn’t mean those limitations or issues don’t exist though.

Depends on carrier. However there have been cases where a vehicle will get totaled due to parts shortage. Although with some of the electrical gremlins going on this might not be the case?

There are hundreds of members on this forum that tow in below freezing weather constantly and don't complain one bit. Maybe they are not as sensitive, but surely a few would pop up if it really was a major annoyance. Cold weather towing will always reduce MPGs, ESPECIALLY with 285s.

Pop a door panel and look for a water line, this theory would make sense especially with electrical issues. No regular truck that hasn't been through some hard stuff would act like this.

Sounds like a virtual lemon. All makes/models have some which is why you test drive and have it checked by a mechanic YOU trust. You could try changing tire sizes and I’m not buying the stealership’s take on a reflash w/ a different tune since that’s a common fix for 3rd gen shift issues and don’t use overdrive for towing. With oversized tires on your mileage may not be as bad as indicated since odo and Speedo are both erroneous therefore the display is as well. Can’t speak to the collision avoidance issues other than possibly a consequence of prior collision coupled with dealers inability or incompetence to address it or figure it out but barring a fix there I doubt you’ll ever be happy behind this particular wheel.

Can we get a new subforum for bitching? I'd get it if OP had questions, but seems like there's been an influx of newish members with nothing good to say about their trucks.

Like, why are you here, and why do you still have the truck if you hate it so much?

Edit: I did see OP was asking for input, my bad.

No, that's a myth. There is no such rule (well, other than in Texas, kinda sorta, depending upon which .gov documents you read). There are some states with title branding rules, as in "If the repairs are x% of the value or higher, you must place the vehicle on a salvage title," but that's much different than "It's not a total unless the damage is x% of the value."

I have a 21 Off Road and have none of these problems (well maybe can empathize with slight gear hunting in the steep hills). I've run it in -20F temps and it runs great. I get 20mpg in town, 23+mpg at 65mph on long highway trips on stock tires. Do larger tires hit mpg that hard?? Sounds like something is wrong...

Same exact experience here. Upgraded from 265/65r17 to 275/70r17 and lost 5 MPG because of the weight, calculated using GPS and calculator. Went back to stock ASAP. These trucks hate heavy tires. Some light 265/70r17s are the next step for me.

It’s a combination of heavier tires, higher profile, and inaccurate display probably exacerbated by lemonitis.

    Did you test drive it?

Buy a real truck, these are light duty at most which is what I mostly needed.
Nothing wrong with that, works for me but I have a full size too for big truck things & towing.

I have. Towed with a ton, had 33's on it and drove in below 0F weather up and over many Rocky Mountain passes. I purchased a manually specifically to avoid the transmission related headaches so I can't speak from personal experience on those, other than what I noticed as a passenger in friends' Tacomas.

Couldn’t agree more. I’ve hopped in vehicles, loved them right from the lot to trade, this one I own now - talk about a relationship. Fussy, sometimes great, sometimes not so great, all over the place. It’s a beautiful truck but not a grounded one.

Other than trade? Try to sell it privately (full disclosure). If that fails, you could take it to a remote location, light it on fire, tell authorities it was stolen, make insurance claim. Good luck.
