I do believe driving skills in general are degrading...

I can't complain too much around here (CA Central Coast) as people are generally competent and curteous. BUT every now and then, I am utterly surprised by some people's lack of skill, or disregard for basic rules, or their decision-making.

Do they think their car will not get crunched If they hit something??

How are things in you area? Anyone from the named cities?

    From the article:
"Read up on the 15 most accident-prone cities in the U.S. below.

    1. Memphis, Tennessee
    2. Daytona Beach, Florida
    3. Ocala, Florida
    4. Macon, Georgia
    5. Fort Lauderdale, Florida
    6. Albany, Georgia
    7. Jackson, Mississippi
    8. Birmingham, Alabama
    9. Tuscon, Arizona
    10. St. Louis, Missouri
    11. Baton Rouge, Louisiana
    12. Little Rock, Arkansas
    13. San Marcos, Texas
    14. Knoxville, Tennessee
    15. Montgomery, Alabama"

Any city in AZ should be at the top of that list. Way too many drivers on their phones, running red lights and asleep at the lights.

Any coincidence that 13 or 14 of the cities (depending how you classify southern) are in southern states? Makes me wonder?

Most prefer the sun belt/warmer states. Lots of drivers close together causes issues. :notsure:

Dude, I lived in the Deep South for 20+ years before I made my way out west.
    I'll never go back.

Do you remember the movie Deliverance?
It's a work of fiction, but in reality it's more like a documentary....

For as much as y’all make fun of us, you have to admit that Cali drivers are among the least likely to make that list. Not sure why - maybe it’s driving experience? We have so much room out here that development is spread out so everyone has to drive a lot more and further than most people living in more densely populated cities and small towns where they can drive less.

I live 20 miles from Daytona, and drive I-95 a lot. Numbers don't seem right to me.

Did find this about Florida's worst areas for crashes.

    1. Fort Lauderdale
    2. Hollywood
    3. Jacksonville
    4. Tampa
    5. Tallahassee
    6. Miami
    7. Hialeah
    8. Orlando
    9. West Palm Beach
    10. St. Petersburg

I figured Jax to St. Augustine would be at the top. It's a shit show.

I blame smart phones, infotainment systems, and lack of manual gear boxes for the plethora of inattentive drivers on the road today.

Well, that, plus everyone who thinks they're playing some version of GTA...

I live in Memphis and it’s terrible they drive 70-100 mph zig zagging out of traffic and a lot of those have drive out tags. They don’t care if they die or take you with them. Or they may decide to shoot you and take your truck.

    just another night in Memphis.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A man was carjacked while in a fast food drive through Monday night.

According to Memphis Police, a man was sitting in his vehicle on 4672 Quince Road at McDonald’s around 11:08 p.m.

While waiting to get food, four suspects approached the victim and his girlfriend with long guns.

One of the suspects pulled the driver out of the car, punched him in the face, and searched his pockets for the car keys.

The suspects then pulled his girlfriend out of the car and drove away in the victim’s 2017 Infiniti followed by a dark sedan.

The driver told police there was 10 people all armed with long guns at the scene.

McDonald’s employees told police they have cameras but didn’t have access to it at that time

Yesterday on my way home, I'm on the highway right around the interchange there's a CUV with it's front end pressed into the wall. Looked like they drove right into the wall. Kid just sitting on the wall with his phone.

Maybe they spun, but why did they go head first into the wall. No other vehicles around so they must have done that all on their own

I just saw a wreck... a guy with a brand new Mustang driving it hard, flying up a hill on a turn, caught a car by surprise making a left turn. Killed the other the driver the impact as so bad.

Strange that big cities like New York and Boston aren't in the top 10.

    IMO Accidents =/= shit drivers

Also in big cities I would argue mass transit is far more utilized which would take more people out of cars/personal transportation. Now the suburbs are a different story...

If you follow the links to the original article you will see that the list is based on per-capita statistics.

New York City happens to be very low on the list. I suspect this is because of the large number of New Yorkers that don’t drive.

I’m not following you. The southern cities on the list are no where near the most populated cities in the US and also probably not the densest.

I guess I was thinking more TX and AZ for populated sunbelt regions. I know FL is packed with people, but I'm not too sure about the population levels in some of the those other south east regions. I don't think that list is accurate.
