Got this one painted up yesterday. Might add a little more paint detail, but basically finished.

I want to add something to my bumpers to attach a dog leash. Anyone know of some clever designs?

I've done both; used a carabeaner for one bumper and just something like a bowline knot for another one when I had a really long tether

No time and money wasted trying to "add" something to a bumper that wasn't necessary

smashed this, broke that, covered it up with tape and paint
So go get the giant carabiner from Home Depot that people use to carry groceries

    additionally
Just hook the leash to your D ring and put the D ring on the recovery point as intended

as long as you don't national lampoon it...

i like cutting chain links in half for such a purpose.

it's held up to my 80 pound pittie, and not for a lack of him trying...

todays project was a somewhat time-sensitive project.

from what i'm told, about 20-30 years ago, my houses previous owners tied their fence into what's officially the neighbors fence. to close off their back yard instead of having dueling fences, with the requisite 2ft of no-mans-land between them. that neighbor got pissed at this and tore it out. ever since, there's posts there, but no fence. now that neighbor passed away 15 years ago, and different, less-particular people live there.

with me getting a dog a year and a half ago, it's sort of required to either leash him, or complete the fence so he doesn't terrorize the neighborhood. since i got him, i had just zip-tied some extra fencing across the space to contain the beast and give him space to run..

but the now the neighbor on that side is talking about having the retired neighbor on my opposite side help with cleaning up their hoarder-mothers packed garage. i don't mind them cutting across my back yard, i'm on great terms with either of them, and it's been on my to-do list anyways to make a gate to make lawn mowing easier.

the main problem is that absolutely none of the existing posts are standard fence post sizes. so it meant adapting everything to fit things it wasn't intended to fit. which is where the welding came in-- instead of bolting the brackets like normal, i cleaned the galvanizing off, and welded everything together. took most of the day, but it swings out of the way when needed, and keeps the beast contained.

    The overly complicated setup (sarcasm)

Used the recovery for our own dog (RIP Bronx)

In another thread I suggested to someone that they should add a bottle opener to their swingout

Now they can add both a gusset for strength, but also have a bottle opener at their disposal

Trying to get a ballpark price to heat treat parts. What would something the size of an lca cost? Material is 4130?

Ok, don't be offended but, who would heat treat LCA's made from strong steel already?

Why do you feel the need to do such a thing?

Ring and pinion gears will break sooner than anything in a Yota and that's if you were running RCV's for axles

No reason why you need to beef up an LCA in such a way

I've connected the end loop on the leash through the shackle on more than one occasion...

Our primary leash has clips at both ends, or rather, the closed loop / human end double back and clips to itself:

When we're done at the beach, I'll usually just open that clip and attach it around the outer slider bar so I can poor a bucket of water on the dog and dry her off without worrying she'll run around the parking lot.

Plenty of reasons to heat treat an LCA, but none of them are drivetrain related. High speed , you can vevy easily dent the bottom of a 1/4" plate lower arm.

For low or high speed, heat treating would lessen the gouging of dragging a control arm over a rock.

A good impact near where the bushing sleeve(or heim insert) welds to the rest of the arm could cause a stress raiser that makes a future hit tear out the weld

Or in a race application it could allow you to cut some weight either in material thickness or design, without sacrificing yield strength.

Going out on a limb guessing that soggy's not designing for the average RTT and rotopax Tacoma.

Good points, and maybe you know him better than I do. But I did make an assumption that this wouldn't be a high-speed running truck as other posts implied otherwise IE certain custom bumpers, camper shell, etc
