Help updating Gracenote

I have a 2018 Non-JBL Tacoma. I'm trying to update Gracenote but the head unit isn't recognizing the usb drive. This is what I've done. Instructions here: https://toyota-en-us.visteoninfotainment.com/how-to-update-gracenote

1. formatted a usb drive to fat32
2. downloaded the gracenote*.up file and placed it on the usb drive
3. inserted the drive into the usb drive to the left of the 12v outlet
4. navigated to the gracenote update page on the head unit. - cant find usb drive
5. restarted the head unit and repeated step 4 - cant find usb drive
6. placed micro-usb disk, fat32, and the *.up file in the sd card slot on the head unit - can't find the usb drive.
   

As a side note the ".up" is binary but contains some info that could be interesting to dig into especially the *.ini.gz file at the end.

When I looked into this I’m almost certain I found there’s no way to update the gracenote db on the headunit, despite it listing a version number.
I’ve yet to read a post from anyone who successfully updated it, could be wrong though

 

But it has an update button. wtf
