The qualities that made Toyota the company that it is today are fading like a breakdown in the rearview mirror:
    -Value
    -Dependability
    -Simple design
    -Efficient distribution

This is not a knock on the 4G, just the company, although some of these changes are born out by the new Tacoma.

On average, across the brand, I don't think any of those values have diminished. There are bumps in the road for any manufacturer, production glitches on new models, etc.

I see tons of Toyotas out on the road. I'd say 60% of people I know own one or have owned one. No one I talk to is unsatisfied with their Toyota or wouldn't buy one again.

I find most of the crying about Toyota to be on the internet. Here on TW in particular. I swear I think 60% of people on here hate their trucks.

    I think Toyota is fine.

Yep, lost their way, worse than GM now.

We should all sell our trucks, any stock you have in TMC, and shut down the website. It's been a good run, almost 30 years under the Tacoma brand, but it's finally over.

What are the measurable metrics for each of those bullet points, and whats the delta, variance, and confidence interval?

Or are we basing this on the number of threads about a volume knob?

Hey man. My 3rd gen knob might be a little slower than others at cranking up, but it gets the vehicle up the highway all the same.

This is what 3rd gen owners sound like now that the 4th gen is coming out. It's to be expected that when any new generation comes out, owners of the old truck will get jealous and bitch on TW.

Everyone I know with car issues drives an American car. So, I'd say if anyone is lost is the domestic manufacturers.

I'm not saying everyone I know has had car trouble, or that American cars are bad, just that the people I know that have had car issues have all happened to drive American cars.

Tacoma drivers: "My transmission sucks." "The low end power sucks." "We need more modern tech, everything we have is 10 years old already."

Tacoma drivers when Toyota tried to update the truck: "They changed the truck! How dare them!"

I must agree, for the most part. I have plenty of friends with foregin makes that have issues, but at least in my experience every domestic make I've owned or my family has owned has had far more issues than any foreign makes.

This thread could’ve been made when the first 3.0’s started blowing head gaskets 30+ years ago…and safe to say that everything worked out fine.

Recent developments only prove that Toyota is mortal. We should be disappointed, and definitely hold them accountable at these prices, but I guarantee no other manufacturer works harder to correct mistakes.

Maybe wait a while before diving head first into the “all-new” truck pool, but they’ll get it right.

Hmm, don't know if Toyota has totally "lost it's way", but back when Akio Toyoda was CEO, I would definitely say Toyota was on a better track from an enthusiasts POV.
Akio said no more beige Camry or Corolla, no fill-in EV development, we got the GR86, twice, a GR Corolla, a "Supra" and interesting things like a TRD Camry. Heck, we bought a Flame Blue Corolla HB mainly because the new design finally isn't a beige penalty box.

The new CEO is doing what he thinks is right for the company. He's completely changed course on EVs and focusing more on investors. If that's a good thing, time will tell.

I'm not sure what the changes in the upper echelons of Toyota have to do with the Tundra and Tacoma. I think it'll take time before we can look back and really see how this all played out.

As a Nissan guy myself, I'll say Nissan is definitely losing it's way, far more than Toyota. The Z was the last flicker of hope, their good vehicles get neglected, and they just announced they are no longer investing in combustion engines, which is about the only area Nissan excels in.

Maybe Toyota is too big to fail, we are just forced to adjust, or buy used vehicles.

Man, my local Toyota dealer is a joke. At least the sales department is. The service center is quite good, always has been. But I know a couple people that were shopping Toyotas and bought something else because of treatment at our local dealer. Shame....
