    Hey all--

I've got a dead airbag module. Still need to investigate potentially bad capacitors as an issue, but one reset and two scanner opinions later-- dead, needs to be replaced.

Toyota says 900 for new module + whatever cost for reprogramming. I've found a used working one from a reputable place for around 150, but it seems like no one will fully wipe and reprogram a used one citing liability. I've heard plenty about them being VIN locked-- can anyone confirm if they've ever put in a replacement and had issues?

I found an airbag module from a junked Toyota that matched my year. Plugged in and it fixed my airbag light issue. Did not need to reprogram anything.

Hey one other question ? Were they the exact same part numbers that you got? I found one from a 2001 with the last two digits ending in 30 not 40 they look identical. Thx

I'm not 100% sure on part number. My Tacoma is a 99 and I drove 2 hrs to look at I think a 2001 but the holes in the airbag module were different ( 2 plugs instead of my 3). I then found a junkyard with a 2000 Tacoma and it has 3 holes that matched mine. I didn't check part numbers though.

I had two codes, drivers airbag and passenger airbag. There’s no way both airbags are bad so I was figuring maybe a wire rubbed through or it has to be the module. Bought a module on marketplace since there are so many rusted out Tacoma’s parting out today. Got it for $35. The module was my problem! No more airbag light. No need to program it. Thanks again for the information.
