The last few times I’ve gone to use my cruise control seems
Like the button to turn it on only works half the time. What do you think it could be? Push the button and the light for cruise comes on and sometimes it don’t?
    Help !
2012 ext cab 4.0 base model.

Does your horn work when the CC doesn't?

Yes, my horn still works when cruise doesn’t work. Started out this morning leaving my driveway and cruise works. I shut it off on highway and sometimes it won’t come back on. Like now, I pull over and put truck in drive and cruise works??!

    weird!

Seems like when I turn my steering wheel the cruise will come on when I push the button.

Suspect you have failing wiring for the clock spring

A search on that term should bring you some threads on symptoms, sources and replacement procedure.

@Dm93 may have some additional details that would be helpful. I'm remembering either a recall or TSB, but that may no longer be applicable?

Sounds like the clockspring (Spiral Cable) is failing if it works when you turn the wheel, not sure why but it seems like the cruise or horn is the first to go on these.

Not terrible, getting the steering wheel off is probably the hardest part.
Take care when removing and reinstalling the steering angle sensor that is attached to the back of the clockspring.

This is from my Toyota guy…

…The part is $177, and around $140 labor. I do have to order the part, I could have it in a day.

I was saving my money for an OEM spiral cable, and then I realized I could put 10 of the Amazon ones in for the same price. I can change one out in about 30 minutes start to finish, so it's pretty easy to do.

The one I bought is no longer available, but if you search part number 84306-48030 you'll find a ton to choose from.
