Ordered 6112 and 5160 shocks for my 3rd gen OR. front shocks should be set at 1.7 lift. my question is do i need anything else? i just mob trails but i dont have any weight in the back, hoping to just level the truck as well so i didn’t want to add any rear lift. ive read on here that the diff drop isn’t necessary for that small of a lift. please let me know or link me to a thread that has been made about it already

Avoid the diff drop, you won't need it for that amount of lift. Make sure you get aligned after the new suspension goes in and then send it with that setup. It'll tell you if it needs more.

If you're 4x4, consider the clamshell (ECGS or similar) bushing as well. Looks like you may be OK with the OEM UCA, and I'd hold off on the diff drop.

You may find that your 3rd gen doesn't have 1.7" of rake to level the front up to. Measure first.

Go watch tinkerer's adventure videos on youtube. He has a video on diff drops, and many on toyota suspension. He is an engineer who gives practical examples and explanations, not some "taco bro" who is sponsored by the stuff he's putting on his vehicle or someone trying to sell you something.

But the short answer is no, you don't need a diff drop or any other modifications. The long answer is it depends on other modifications you have already done, and what your application is, to determine what is an optimal setup.

    6112/5160s with Icon stage 2 leaf’s.
I installed 6112/5160 a few weeks ago. I haven’t gotten an alignment yet, but it still drives straight as an arrow.
If you’re going to do the work yourself, just make sure you have an adequate jack and stands.

1.7 might be a little much without anything in the rear, at the very least you’d be dead level but squatted with weight or acceleration, if you want to keep the look as level as possible I’d add a half inch rear block

1.1" of lift on the same setup got me level with the rear on 4x4 access cab. bit of squat when hauling so now i'm debating a 1" block or something in the rear.

I've run that exact setup (I believe I set mine to 1.5'') for 30k miles and have had no issues. You do not need a single thing other than the shocks Bilstein sends you. The install is way easy too. I would get an alignment right away though.

I did a diff drop for my three inch lift…. Do you think it was necessary?

One more thing, once you change suspension it’s better to see an actual alignment-specific shop or 4x4 shop. Big box stores and tire shops aren’t as good as real alignment techs when it comes to making adjustments with aftermarket suspension
