Can you read? Tailgate. Not surface rust on a "tailpipe", rust on the bodywork.

Awesome to see on a 2 year old "made in Japan" vehicle.

live in Tahoe and salty roads every winter and don’t see that on mine! I’ve never even heard of someone getting “tailgate” rust on their 4 runner.

My guy, you know you gotta leave the rear window UP when it rains at night right!?

But I’m sure your ‘24 Tacoma will LONG out last the ‘24 4runner

Also thank you for purchasing a new 4G Tacoma and contributing to Toyota’s operational expenses around research/development around these initial issues until they dial in their processes. We salute you!!! And so does your bank!! Not all heroes wear capes

This is even stupider than your last post. This is a common issue and there numerous other posters and pictures in that thread. Have a look or don't.

5th gen 4Runner has been on sale since 2010 and they still haven't bothered to install a simple TSB from the factory to prevent this issue meanwhile you are here blindly singing their praises because "ooooo JAPAN!!".

I love how everyone praises having a vehicle made in Japan. They all used to be and that is why they all rotted away. You get that they have to come across the a large body of salt water in that process right. LOL... Y'all wild.

Well they aren't floated here in the ocean, they're on a boat transporter. :)

They are not in sealed chambers. They sit at a port soaking in a salty atmosphere for months. And then they are subject to spray and everything else on the journey. Ever noticed how rusty vehicles near the ocean get? That salts in the air. Japan is also an island so you know. More time for all the raw material to be in the salt.

I hear ya. But the US use of salting roads especially in the North East seemed to not have helped. It takes years of exposure.

I had a 2022 4Runner with rattling issues that was made in Japan, what people forget or don’t realize is there are hundreds if not thousands of parts that are in your car that Toyota doesn’t make but different manufacturers all over the world including china India and Mexico. During Covid Toyota announced they would start using parts that they would normally reject is long as it wasn’t visible to the customer. I think the parts manufacturer just started cutting corners and making shittier parts and Toyota accepts it now.

On the 3rd gen tundras the engines are blowing up due to the bearings and it’s actually an outside manufacturer not Toyota who makes the bearings same for the frames

4Runners aren’t sitting at the tahara plant outside for months I guarantee it maybe a day or two tops before it’s driven into the enclosed roro ship

I hear you, but I don't think it's quite many as you would think (like Ford or GM).
    Maybe 50 different Toyota suppliers.

In the 90s I'm pretty sure it was like 5.

I have no rust on my 2016 4Runner. But it is garage kept and I am not in the rust belt.

Of course not. I've put little thought into the issue they may or may not be having.

    Edit

Just throwing it out there about recalls and Tundras, or Tacomas in this case. If Toyota is facing manufacturing and recall issues, That doesn't do the people shopping the competition any favors. The domestics might think they can get away with selling at higher prices.

Dude, I get it. My 5 year old Tahoe with less than 50k miles needed a new thermostat at 30k and just under 50k the water pump had complete failure of the bearing allowing the impeller to get into the housing and pump metal shavings through the engine while dumping all 18 quarts of coolant on the ground. For a car that stickered for $87,000 that is complete horse shit.
