Just keep throwin' money at it.
Another random RTT question. I've been looking at RTTs on the secondhand market. There are a few ARB Simpson III's in my area and price range. I had a question around ventilation, most of the other soft shell (OVS Nomadic, Tepui, etc.) have vents along the roof panels and the ARB does not. Has anyone found this to be an issue? I am in the PNW where wet/humid weather is going to be a thing and wanted to check before I dove in. The skylight option is nice on some of the other models, but with a rain fly on the tent (RTT or Ground tent) not really needed.

Basically, I am between an ARB Simpson III and either the OVS Nomadic 3 or Tepui Kukenam and the ventilation is something I am wondering about. Mesh vs solid ceiling panels.

I don’t have experience with those tents, but I am also here in the PNW with my roofnest condor overland (first version). With rain fly on you can still open side windows and entry / exit door to expose mesh for air flow and the fly has awnings. The mini fan to keep airflow is a huge help too.

i do have condensation under the mattress after a few nights, and an anti condensation mat is on my list to purchase. I don’t think roofnest makes one but there’s a Tepui (I think) version that seems about the right size.

I air it out at home and remove the mattress after each trip.

Not sure if that helps. I have considered buying Miracle Mist as a pre treatment as I’ve heard good things.

What is the floor size? I have a couple of condensation mats. Have for free. I’ll get measurements of them. Tomorrow.

My tepui kukeman only has condensation issues when I was on the Oregon coast last September. I leave the top of the side windows open but leave the rain fly on. Moisture under the mattress was more of a problem

Seems decent, but why not just grab the OVS 270 LTE? it's $100 cheaper, and looks to be the same coverage. I would go with a more known brand personally, unless you really want those walls

They are both made by same manufacturer just labeled differently and different options... Look at RTT... They are the same way... All made in China... Well except ikamper... They are made on Korea

Yeah i figured they were coming from the same factory, OVS is more established so I would imagine their customer service, warranty, etc are all better. hopefully at least lol.

but it's also cheaper hence why i presented it. unless the LED lights are worth $100 to him

I didn't realize the OVS was discounted. The OVS has a little less coverage and no built in LEDs, but i may go this route since I've been looking at OVS for a year or two now.

The one who dies with the most stuff wins.
I bought their larger 270* awning a few months ago and so far have been very happy with it.

Do you have any feedback on the Lost Horizon mattress and pump?

I am curious how it compares to my Exped. I am considering a change and do like the idea of the pump too.

Haven't slept on it yet, but laying on it in the living room we can already tell its going to be comfortable.

The pump works fantastic for inflating and deflating, its less than 3-5 minutes I'd say.

The tricky part is going to be deflating & folding/rolling it up when camping. I saw some reviews where they left their self inflating mattresses in the tent and it re-inflated and jacked up the tent. I'm asusming that might just be a self inflating mattress problem vs lost horizon problem.

Why don't you like your exped? Curious since they are so raved about.

The exped has been great over the past 6 or 7 years. No complaints for that. But lately that pad has lost it's charge which made me start looking at options. Also, I have had to patch it so not sure it there is a relationship.

Would be interested in hear your evaluation once you've spent a few nights with it.

Damn tbat sucks... Tuffstuff has been outstanding as far a customer service. I had two issues with my Alpha II. One was failed seem tape, the shipped me a replacement of the tent canvas. The second was the film sealent on the ABS cover bubbled and peeled. They replaced the entire RTT. For both issues all I had to do was send them pictures and provide the RTT serial #.

I've heard similar praise for most of the more affordable RTT companies. They know their not making the most extreme product so they make up for it with service. Roofnest on the other hand isn't a RTT company, they are a marketing company. That's the only thing they are good at. Garbage service, bullshit lines about being a Colorado company, and selling tents at a premium price when you can buy the same thing on china-bay for way less. Truly a sham of a company.
