Clean the throttle body and the MAF and you'll be fine

did you complete the dakar rally? any mud drags? or maybe your house requires fording across a river every night to get home?

if no to any of those questions, your motor is fine. the air filter is just like the masks everyone wore on their face during covid.

just as we are, technically your motor is happier not using it, as it's a restriction, but is intended to extend the lifespan to keep grit out of the motor. but if you're only driving around town the entire time in air you can still see more than a half mile in, there's very little grit to be had, and therefore, very little potential damage.

alternatively, how many small engines(lawn mowers, snow blowers, weed whackers) actually have an air filter? most don't, and they'll run for decades without an issue, many times while generating their own amount of dust.

You installed a CAI to replace the factory CAI?

    Did it up your performance?

Yes it did. Very noticeable improvement in horse power and sound from the exhaust. Did a lot of research before dropping 300 on one. S&b seemed to be the best choice.

Thanks for the advice. Cleaned everything today. Really wasn’t all that dirty. Some carbon build up in the throttle body but it wiped out easily.

This makes sense but a quick google search is what had me thinking I was screwed. Very relieved now.
