Fluid change

Hi, I just bought a 2013 Tacoma reg cab. Manual trans. 2.7l 4x4 with 143000 miles.
I want.to change out all the fluids, owners manual call for 75w 85 and 75w90 for differentials transfer case and manual trans fluid. Can I just use Mobil 1

75w 90 for all applications, and make it easy?
From what I'm reading the limited slip additives shouldn't matter....Thanks

I would closely check the spec on the manual transmission fluid for a 2nd gen. I originally thought on a third gen I could use all one fluid, but then in doing research found that there is a reason Toyota calls for different manual transmission fluid. I ended up using Redline MT90, which meets the spec for a third gen. The main issue is that regular gear oil can deteriorate the synchros in the transmission...so do some research and don't rush into changing the fluids if you aren't 100% sure what will be "safe" to use.

 

Owners manual call for 75w90 in manual transmission and transfer case....only would be using 75w90 in differentials instead of 75w85.

 

The wt difference on the high side is a non issue

What is important is making sure it's the right GL rating.

The trans may be GL4 with the diffs being GL5

GL4 is a touch trickier to find.

 

The owners manual states gl4 or gl5 for the transmission and transfer case. But all the videos I watch people are saying Gl4 for transmission....too much additives in gl5 for soft metal in manual tranny. Ill probably go with Amsoil Gl4 for tranny and mobil 1 75w90 for the rest.

Ok, so I got it down to Redline Mt90 in my manual transmission. Now I need to decide what to put in my transfer case and differentials.
I'm torn between Mobil1 75w90, Amsoil and Redline.
Vehicle has 145k miles and nor sure if any service was ever done.
HELP.

 

Do what the owners manual suggests. Don't be lazy.

Any of the oil brands you recommend will be fine, but stick to the weight the manual recommends.

 

Not being Lazy, trying to put in the BEST. $$ is not a problem, rather spend more and have better results.

 

Further review , going with Amsoil MT GL4 for tranny and transfer case and Amsoil severe gear 75w90 for differentials. Any thoughts???

 

If its like my 2015 the manual calls for GL-5 in transfer case . probably make no difference. Just what it says.

 

Manual for 2013 calls for Gl4 or gl5 in transfer case.
So confusing!! Everything i read says gl4 for tranny even though manual says gl4 or gl5.

 

This is what I use. I have tried MT90 and honestly felt no difference between the two with shifts. It’s usually available at NAPA stores.

Not that to say there isn't one but I have never come across a single manual trans that specified GL-5. My old mustang 5.0 used Dexron ATF in the manual trans so that doesn't count...
Would stick to GL-4 for trans.

Now in the beginning I was adamant that transfer cases have no synchro's but someone showed me i was indeed incorrect and there was indeed one synchro ring and yet they specify GL-5 for my transfer case. Is it maybe a different material that the ones on manual transmissions I have no clue. I just went by the manual and changed everything to 75W90 Gl-5 Amsoil severe gear (I have an automatic trans).

And all this is particular to 2nd gen of course.

Thats what is specified for the current transfer case not the 2013. And its ridiculously expensive. Everyone here with a 2nd gen is running normal 75W90 Gl-5 (or possibly GL4).

You only need 1.1 quarts and a quart of 75W90 Amsoil GL-5 is $23. Once again. Refer to the manual.

Its interesting. On amsoil website it list both the GL-4 and GL-5 lube for your transfer case but only the GL-5 for my 2015
These show the 2013 as having transfer case model U/K - TRC and for my 2015 VF2BM so it appears they are different

i picked a liter up when it was almost half off MSRP for a 2nd gen regular cab with AT i am looking after
that truck has factory transfer oil still at 94k miles and 13+ years
