It’s a standard industry practice to mix additive packages at the station.

Usually the additives are put in when the fuel is delivered. It’s mixed into the fuel as it comes off the truck.

It’s done this way because it greatly simplifies the logistics of refining and delivering fuel to stations and depots.

My truck is 91 tuned and I run 91 gas from Costco only. I’ve never had any problems with pinging

Yeah FWIW I've been running COSTCO / Kirkland 87-octane exclusively in my 2014 Tacoma V6 since I got the truck 20K miles & 3 years ago (truck now at 79K miles.) I have had no pinging or other fuel-related issues that I'm aware of. (NA, OTT-tuned.)

Truck burns no oil at all between 3.5K-mile changes, gas mileage is normal, and my recent oil-analysis report came back excellent / normal / no issues noted.

Used Costco gas a few times, and noticed a difference. Could be a whole host of factors and might not be the same now. Im usually a miser, but I look at the length of the line for fuel at my local costco and am A-OK with paying more elsewhere.

Just an anecdote, but when a Costco business center opened up on my route to work, there's barely any lines at the pumps. Then again, it's still new and a regular Costco is only three miles away from it.

Going back on topic, I haven't had any issues with Costco gas in terms of performance. It's possible that I can achieve different results if I use a regular gas station, but there are too many variables in play.

The only negative I can note was when the Costco near my home accidently filled up tanks meant for regular unleaded 87 with E85. Luckily, they owned up to their mistake and paid the repairs on behalf of the affected owners.

That's Tempe 85284 zip code but whatever, small detail, my wife and i shop at that location, i've never tried their gas though. I always fill up at Frys and never had an issue with how my truck runs from their fuel.

No doubt. From what Ive read costcos now use different graded fuels (likely from when I used them). But yes a whole bunch of variables and my experience is mine and based solely on my own experience.

Sediment in the tanks is a myth. I work at a gas station and we change the filters at each dispenser twice a year. They never have anything in them

The diesel filters trap some of that orange varnish stuff but that's about it

I found that it really depends on the time. At my local Costco, I found that going a bit before closing has little to no wait

It’s very possible op got bad gas just because it’s Costco doesn’t make it perfect every time and obviously it’s coming from the refinery. Yes each Costco adds the detergent in house I’ve talked to and seen the guy at Costco do it (all computerized he just pushes a button)

We must live in the same city. The new Costco Business Center near me has more pumps and fewer crowds than any warehouse I’ve visited anywhere in the country. The regular warehouse just down the road gets a lot more traffic.

I usually stick with Chevron due to the additive packages and their reviews.

Kirkland is pretty much the only gas that goes in the truck and their premium goes in my IS. Both eat it with no problems.

I’ve been using Costco gas for many years and never had an issue. I’ve read that some people think it’s lower quality, but I know some people in the gas/oil industry and they say it’s the same stuff. The trick I’ve found is going early in the morning or at night before they close and there’s no line…

Tesla has their overflow inventory lot directly across from the Scottsdale Costco gas station. I wonder how many drivers have converted to EV after waiting in line to fuel up.

Costco has Top-Tier gas, they have the busiest pumps, and the best prices. Lots of bad info on this thread. The things your grandpappy said about fuel is not always true.

My Turbo charged daily driver prefers Costco gas (91 octane where I live)

With the gas cost in California I think everyone has considered it!

I use Costco Gas always except when traveling. Back in the 1980s my friend's dad was a manager at a local gas station. The owner would add a bag of sugar to the storage tanks after every delivery. He said the reason was it made the regular customer's cars get bad mileage so they filled up more often.
