Looks like the JL powered doesn't come in an 8" sealed. The 10" however does. I don't mind the extra cost if it means getting the end result. Thanks for the heads up on that. I probably wouldn't have even looked at the sealed.

Ol girl got a thorough wash and ceramic detail wipe down this afternoon. Since getting it back from the body shop a few weeks ago after it got wrecked, I hadn’t replaced the grille lights yet so I got that done today. This time I opted for the smoked lenses and initially I really like them!

Installed the OEM auto tailgate lock. Forgot to take pictures as I was doing it but went in pretty easily. With a little luck will get it washed up and the bed mat put in tomorrow.

Added in a k&n cold air intake today. 2 reasons. 1 I keep getting seeds under the air filter in the box, signs of nesting keep coming up. 2, I got a heavy-ish rv for the taco, and any extra torque/hp that can be added is welcome. Plus it does sound cooler

Part 1 of getting rid of the chrome:

After looking at the thread linked below, I learned that the Tacoma TRD PRO comes with different taillights.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-difference-on-ag-sport.832217/#post-29827075

I wasn’t a fan of the gray housing with the chrome on the TRD Sport/Off-Road taillights that I have, so I placed an order on the OEM 20+ Tacoma TRD PRO taillights during the 20% off Memorial Day sale from a Toyota parts dealer.

The install is really easy. It’s just unscrewing off the taillights, pulling them straight out, then unplug then plug the wires, then putting the new taillights back on.

1st pic is the taillights that the TRD Sport and TRD Off-Road comes with. 2nd pic is the 20+ TRD PRO taillights.

The truck looks so much better with the black Tacoma TRD PRO taillights. It matches the black LED headlights much better.

    Part numbers:

    Left Hand: 81560-04230
    Right Hand: 81550-04230

Part 2 of getting rid of the chrome is to get Bumpershellz Textured Black (TPO) bumper covers from Ecoological. I did this to match the black OEM 20+ TRD PRO taillights and the black emblems my truck comes with.

The install is pretty straight forward, just unclipping some pins and finessing the cover on, which can take a bit of time.

I used a code ROBTACO10 for 10% off from a YouTuber called Rob Daman. It’s good enough for having extra money for a lunch!

I included before and after and how the part fits, in which it fits great! The Textured Black isn’t an exact perfect match, but pretty close. That’s good enough for me.

Finished my regear to 5.29s. Initial drive felt really good. 480 more miles of break-in to go. Also don't buy a harbor freight creeper if you're 190 lbs or more, it will bottom out lol.Resized_20240608_150934_1717902541115.jpg

Surprisingly, I didn't. But I did just order a wrench because it was an absolute pain to get it off.

Hit 14k (yes I missed it) yesterday on a trip out to meet my friend with a Voodoo Blue 4R to go trail riding. Earlier in the week I installed the new airLYNX from Apex Designs - essentially an air shock for the front sway bar end links, fill with air for road driving, air down for off roading - supposedly allows for 50% additional front flex. Seemed to do pretty well off-road yesterday! Apex also makes a full disconnect that requires a bit of fab work to install, allows for 80% disconnect, this likely fits my truck and I a bit better and is quite a bit cheaper as well! You use one of those mountain bike air shock pumps with a no loss fitting since the air shock has such a small volume it can hold, it would lose most of it's air from the normal air pop when you remove an air chuck. They recommend 150psi min for road driving, 300 psi max, and 0psi for off-road.

    Link for airLYNX

I put together an install video on instagram if anyone's curious to watch, super simple install, just need to wrangle with the sway bar a bit. Feel free to give me a follow there, I'm much better at posting content on there lol. Install video

Some pics from yesterday and the airLYNX on as well!

I'm guessing here and if I'm wrong I apologize. I think the implication is if your OEM composite filter housing didn't break, why are you replacing it with the cast aluminum housing? Peace and Love,

With the windows rolled down a little bit lately, I noticed these noises, and thus I'm tired of all the clunking. Ordered these Bolts to eliminate that. Should be able to install this coming weekend.

    preventative.

though i've found when changing my own oil, the old method of wiping some old oil on the new seals usually makes it go on/off extremely easy, with no risk to the composite housing. i suspect that the lack of pre-oiling the o-rings is what gets a lot of people into trouble with the composite filter. that and over-tightening is extremely easy to do-- the o-ring only needs to be seated, not torqued, to seal properly.

i have an aluminum housing after all the teeth chattering around here, but i'm honestly only swapping between two composite filter housings. easier/faster cleanup to do it this way.
