I don’t do nymphs often. Hard to swing them and not get tangled with such a short line. But the water was fast and I had no brush on the bank to get caught in so I gave a few a try. Still prefer drys.
They were surfacing not full on breach but enough to make a little splash. They were just possing me off - one would jump so I’d swing my fly over that exact spot. Then they’d jump 2’ to the left so I’d aim my fly over there. Then they’d jump 2’ to the right was I was before!
Tried a little bit of everything - my two favs purple haze and yellow sally did nothing. Tried a couple nymphs. Skeeter, pale dun, humpy. Nada.
I’m still learning for sure but it’s fun. And isn’t bad standing out in the middle of nowhere with no one around and just taking in the view and the sounds.
I have lots more pics but crappy cell at camp so I can’t upload anything tonight
probably not as good as my $50 prime rib last night. I ordered the large thinking I’d have leftovers for a sammich. Nope. Ate the whole thing

I have them but I never use one. I always tight line and let my point fly tick along the bottom usually a heavy head 12or 14. I will double surgeon a short piece of tippet up a ways and swing a 16or 18 a little up in the flow.

Google Tasmanian devil I normally get them from fly fish food I usually get three sizes. The largest a 12 if I’m remembering correctly has bead options I get the heavier one it’s my get down fly. I don’t ever use shot anymore. And my swing is usually a16or18 if I use two of the same fly it’s usually these anymore. I had a double nearly to me before but one got off before I could net them.

    Good morning :pccoffee:

Spent the day yesterday at the Midwest Double Gun shoot at Horse & Hunt. Long day today will be recovery day. Didn't win but held my own and didn't embarrass myself, 150 birds on 30 stations that is a lot of work mentally and physically. Good time and will see a lot of the people at the Woods and Meadows Double Gun shoot in Wi. at the end of the month.

onX Maps was there along with several other vendors. When they first came out they used a SD chip for handheld GPS devices, buy once and free lifetime updates. Then they changed their mind and went to annual cloud based subscription like most everyone else. They are dead to me, plus I don't have cell phone reception most of the places I am in. He was at the shoot yesterday.

I like the topo map graphics. And he is running an 8 hole dog box on the back so he can't be all that bad.

It’s great that you have 5 bars of service but that really spoils the impression of “out in the middle of nowhere.” Must be powerlines nearby too.

How did you get your camper way up there?
