Just a heads up but Mobil 1 ESP X2 OW-20 synthetic (available at a Wally-World near you) isn't licensed or rated under API or ILSAC so 'technically' it isn't an 'approved' oil for 'non-European' vehicles like Toyota, Subaru, etc. If it's not specifically ok'd by the owner's manual then 'technically' it's not ok to use... even if made for high-end cars and it might be a better overall oil. So, if your vehicle is under warranty, you blew your engine, you're dealer sucks, and you happen to be using this kind of oil...good luck with your warranty coverage. But I'm sure it'll all be fine. Probably. :):eek::annoyed:

I’m sure it’s fine but not really sure why’d anyone buy a non-spec rated oil that’s a couple bucks more expensive, especially if you’re under the powertrain warranty. If something that relies on oil goes catastrophically wrong all you are doing is giving Toyota an out to tell you you’re SOL for not following the manual when they ask for receipts and proof of oil changes.

Run of the mill Mobil 1 or if you really want to spend a few more bucks, M1 extended performance, are both compliant to the manual and are proven by many on and off this forum to do just fine.

    I’ve been using Kirkland 0-20. Every 5 k.
Now there’s rumor it’s been discontinued. My Costco doesn’t carry it now.

but Reg Mobile Full synthetic 0-20w is on sale now. I’ll be buying few cases of that.

What does Care Care Nut, Chloe, and Scotty Kilmer say to use? That's the oil you should use.

Funny thing is, when I first contacted the local Subaru dealer (I have a Forester and a Tacoma) about the Mobil 1 ESP X2 synthetic they said 'hey no problem to use it as long as its 0W-20 viscosity, they're all pretty much the same'. Then I checked the product label fine print against my Subie owner's manual and noticed the specs didn't match, so I contacted Subaru of America about it. First they agreed with the dealer. Then I mentioned the no-match-up specs. THEN they said oh sorry nope, it's NOT recommended and potentially could affect the warranty. Exxon/Mobil's website just says go by the owner's manual (big help). Toyota says nope, not for older engines, don't use it in my Tacoma. Based on internet scuttlebutt the Mobil 1 ESP X2 oil is actually pretty good stuff...but since it's not licensed for U.S cars its 'bad' for your car. Lol.

So the morale of the story is:
1-) Don't believe what a dealer or user says about oil or anything else without checking it out first; and
2-) Always look at the back-of-can labels when running down a Wally World oil isle and grabbing one on the fly because you're late for an appointment. :D

Toyota doesn't make motor oil. Use the recommended synthetic weight, and all will be heaven...

Just buy Kirkland synthetic from Costco, Its basically lifetime oil.

Run it for 5k miles, put it back in the bottles and return it as an unsatisfied purchase. Rinse and repeat.

    Happy Friday.
