    Self leveling concrete recommendations?

tearing out this old brick/tile floor whatever you call it. Turns out there’s like 3inches of concrete/mortar they formed in and poured for this. Not tearing all that out so just getting the surface off and going to use some self leveling compound on top to even it up with the rest of my subfloor. Then I’ll put my vinyl plank across it.

Making window frames for the gable ends of my greenhouse. I have a ton of leftover redwood, so I'm cutting it down to 1x3/4, then cut an L to hold the glass. I cut them to length needed for the triangles. Lots of redwood sawdust was made on this day.

Wife wanted sage cabinets so I had to test one to make sure I can make it look good and she likes it. The color goes from green to gray in different lighting.

Level Quik, it’ll want to run as its very wet, I’ve used a bead of spray from insulation along the bottom plate and places you don’t want it to go, can then trim back the foam before finish work..

dont be a scared to trowel it a bit! After level Quik if you need something a little less runny more to just patch spots you can do like Henry feather finish too.. more like a patch rather than something you pour

Yeah we didn’t bring this up to fully level yet and plan for the self leveling stuff to take care of most of that. It’s basically impossible to trowel with the condition of the floor so that’s why this stuff looks so bad lol. I’ll be covering it with sound foam then vinyl plank anyways so I’m not super worried about imperfections as long as it’s level

30+ year old "Wolmanized" deck at camp. NEVER treated with anything....just pressure washed every few years. Looks and feels brand new afterwards. Not 1 single board has rotted!!! Home deck is a different story. NON-WOLMANIZED, but "treated" lumber - this will be my 3rd replacement in about 35 years!!!!

    Forgot....all 2x6s or 2x8s

I’m actually using the stuff from Lowe’s..since I get such a discount there already. It’s working well, will see how the self leveling stuff does this week.

I told my boys age 10 and 12. "You have to paint half the shed. This is where "half the shed" meets. I'm not sure if that's the DMZ or what? Did they leave it for dad to finish?

I think I'll leave it. It's on the inside edge of the shed next to the garage. A moment in brotherhood.

I repaired the vinyl siding on the house this week. Had 1 spot show up high on the side way over the window. Pulled the vinyl up above and cut the bad part out and replaced with the stuff I've had in the shop for the past 20 years. Then 2 places on the garage up high, 1 just outside the man door. My guess is all rock hits.
All looks good besides some being newer looking.

Alright folks, I need some opinions on a kitchen back splash that I've been putting off for too long now according to the wife. She wants a herringbone pattern which has its own 10,000 cuts but what is giving me a solid head scratch is how to trim out the kitchen window. Opening up the floor to opinions is like opening up a can of worms but in my head both have their own issues. To start off, I'd like to show you what the trim looks like on one wall. Yes, I know it doesn't have grout yet,.. i'll get to it... later.

Now I have two options. In both pictures the 2" bull nose is marked in blue.
    A)

    B)

In option A, the bull nose turns 9 and continues to the window level with the bottom of the surrounding upper cabinets. The window sill depth almost fits the width of the 3x5 subway tile so I'd have to trim the window edge of the tile to get a nice unmolested edge closest to the viewer. This option has an issue with what to do with where the herringbone meets the hard edge of the window since it's not going to make the turn and the subway tile is terracotta so the edge is unwanted. I would have to cut all the edges at 45* but then this leads to a sharp corner edge detail. There are thin metal trim pieces that may work to hide the edge but I want something that's proven.

In option B, the bull nose turns with 45* cuts and follows the forward facing edge of the window in sort of a picture frame detail. I would lay the window sill tiles down first flush with the edge of window then align the bull nose with the top edge of the window sill tile to cover and hide that edge. The inner vertical window sill won't get tile in this option. I'm leaning toward this option as it seems to be the easiest to cut and layout.

I'd like to get some opinions on this scenario. How would you tackle this in your house? I also was kicking around the idea of trimming out the window with a window casement out of some 1x material as a sort of drop in then tile up to the edge of that but don't tell my wife that I am thinking of another project to start and never finish.

    -J

option A, herringbone is fun, has she seen double?

What’s your reservations with tile edging?

this project I used tile edging as well as border tile.. (please realize some decisions aren’t mine, these are too large of a tile to herringbone in this backsplash, also white tile with black grout is ass but you have to do what the people want... never do it)
