Kwikvette, what motherboard do you recommend in the $200-$250 range, socket & chipset?

I've built PC's using Asus, Gigabyte & MSI. Thinking of trying ASRock.

    MSI BIOS UI sucks.

Love your avatar, buddy  Thanks in advance :)

Oh, Thank You for your service!

There are way better qualified individuals here than me!

But if I was doing a new build now, I'd go B650/AM5.

It'll get support for much longer as AM4 is on its way out (even though they recently released an AM4 cpu) not to mention Intel's 12/13/14 is on its way out as well.

For high end gaming (and value) its the 7800X3D right now.

Can't say who I'd go with as far as brand, I'd stick to a UI you prefer and see what features are offered that you want such as lighting control and more. No one really makes a bad board nowadays and I've had them all, Gigabyte, Asus, XFX, ASRock, EVGA, MSI, and whatever else I'm forgetting.

But you don't like MSI's UI so cross that one off the list.

    Also...

I'm not up to speed on the X670 but apparently there's a lot more tweaking availability.

Same goes for the B650E and the added 5.0 lane.

Thanks my friend, AMD it will be.

Think I'll go with Gigabyte, never had any problem with them.

I like this Asus. I like the new AM5 socket, more "robust" & the new AMD CPU's.

I usually just edit photos & videos. The only gaming I do is chess, lol.

    Thanks again, Kwikvette :)

    Yeah.
I'm partial to Asus myself. I stay away from MSI. Gigabyte has been hit-or-miss with me, but generally one of the better quality brands.

If you are really looking to future-proof for a bit, I'd consider a board with the B650E chipset to get PCIe 5.0 support. Personally, I tend to lean towards the X-series chipsets with AMD just to make sure I have all the bells and whistles available that I might want.

All I do is browse the web and run a slicer, lol.

I have a MSI with a X570 now with a MSI Nvidia graphics card. The X570 chipset is on the warm side.

I've got a 120mm blowing on the heatsink, so that little fan doesn't spin up.

I've had no problems the MSI components after about 3 years, except the BIOS is a pain in the butt.

Most of the Gigabyte MB are made in China now, booo, lol. I prefer Taiwanese MB's.

I'll look into that chipset, though. I still have a Gigabyte MB with a Phenom CPU from 15 years ago.

Still works, but very outdated. Think I still have Windows XP on it.

I appreciate your input, Rich. Have a great day :)

I've only ever had one white case (current one) but I keep my computers for years so it'll stick around for awhile

Hey Joseph, does that Huntsman have on-board memory? Not a big fan of Synapse software.

Love the setup! Probably gonna be an extremely dumb question.. Whats the mini monitor for? Obviously another monitor, obviously mini, but whats the pro's other than size it has over say a 2nd full size monitor? I guess I mean, do you use it exclusively for certain features in games or something? I'm thinking I could see something like that being really cool in a sim racing rig, to show speedo/rpm/guages/etc.

yeah... Synapse blows. i use Signal RGB to sync all the lights in my system (except the RAM, those are finicky), the Huntsman has hotkeys to adjust the lights without Synapse but i think that's it. you'll need Synapse if you want to record macros or anything.

no such thing as a dumb question. at first i was using it to monitor temps while gaming to adjust fan curves. everything stays at about 60°C during gaming now. now i mostly use it for Discord and iTunes. i had a 2nd fullsize monitor but it was too much at the time. i might revisit it later down the line, but the mini-monitor serves my needs perfectly and it's also portable so i can use it with my laptop when i'm traveling.

Joseph, two more silly questions. Is there any way to change the color of the lights without installing Synapse?

Also, it is corded, correct? I see it uses a USB-C cord. Thinking of getting a Basilisk V3 to go along with it.

Yes, it comes with a lengthy USB-C cord and the hotkeys can change the pattern as well as the color of the lights.

I'll probably look at the HyperX, also. Just to compare how the keys feel. Cheers, my friend
