Goes over six page letter from Toyota to NHTSA about Tundra engine recall. Confirmed it was machining debris and that some time between Jul - Dec 2022 they implemented "cleanliness process changes". As of May 20th there were 824 warranty claims out of 102,092 affected vehicles. I'm sure that 0.807% failure rate will creep up over the next few months but at least Toyota is trying to make it right.

One thing I thought was weird though is why the hybrids weren't included in the recall. They say that since the hybrid has the ability to maintain "motive power" through the electric motor in the event the ICE fails, it doesn't fall under the "A vehicle loss of motive power while driving at higher speeds can increase the risk of a crash" clause.

Also as I stated in a previous post, Lexus has sold over 250,000 2022 and 2023 NX and RX most of which had the T24A engine that have been trouble free.

Sounds to me like machining debris is a favored hypothesis, but its far from certain thats the sole (or actual) cause. No doubt Toyota has all hands on deck to figure it out but I wonder if the V35A platform is doomed.

If the problem turns out to be a design flaw (bearing, casting, etc.) would Toyota likely do an engine revision or would they discontinue the engine?

Is there such a thing as an “engine revision”?

Thanks. Looks like only SR trim. I would probably buy an Xtracab 6’bed OR premium trim today .

Check Engine light also seems to be coming up frequently on the '24's due to the grill shutter sensor. Seems it's been lacking some waterproof dielectric lube from the factory. Much like the 3rd gen and the front sensor (don't remember which one is was, just that I had to have the service performed).

Why does the Land Cruiser require premium and the Tacoma Max not when they both have the same T24A with the same hp/tq rating?

Lets Lexus buyers feel like they truly get a premium product vs. the plebs over at the Toyota dealership.

    Land Cruiser isn’t Lexus.

fyi, I saw my first Lexus GX 550 this morning. Looked pretty decent but the roof rack they had on it is lame. All I could thing about was the twin turbo V6.

Might have been needed to eck out the last 0.1 mpg. The Land Cruiser is a heavier pig.

One in my hood. I’d totally rock if not needing a bed.

54 thousand for a 24’ manual off road 4 door with the JbL. Yikes! What is happening to the economy. That’s like 10% more than it should be at least.

You can always put your mx bike on a hitch mounted carrier.

As in it’d be a fun engine to drive or that it may spin a bearing at any minute lol. It’s sad that I now see a vehicle with the V35A and wonder if it’ll blow.

It certainly is a heck of a lot more Lexus adjacent than a Tacoma. Land Cruiser in America is barely a Toyota and moreso a standalone brand.

Also, I may have been thinking of the GX550 when I commented earlier...
