All my commercial Hustlers have had grease fittings below the deck in the spindle. YUP have had them break the nub off before too. And man the Hustlers hold a lot of grease in those hubs.

Haven't been to my cabin to mow yet this year. Might do it this weekend as the grass must be 3ft high by now lol.

Might not go too because, well, lazy.

hey fellas, i need small engine help. changed oil on chipper. ran it 2 min to warm up for fast drain. topped off tank with good eth free gas. used napa 30w and checked 5x. thing would kinda run when choked but died when turned down. plug is dry and clean. im wondering if its a carb linkage issue but manually tinkering dint work. throttle adjust doesnt operate the spring much. makes me wonder if some goofy spacer broke and fell out. any ideas? oh. air filter is in top notch shape and my atv running the same batch of gas is aces today running.

I wouldn't think changing the oil would cause an issue. But just making sure it is a 4 stroke engine?

I’d say carb needs cleaning or has water in the gas tank.

Was that gas from the bottom of the gas can? Those last 4" can really get you in trouble. Water sinks in liquid gas and separates quite fast. If your unit is a gravity feed with the tank above the carb, the 1st thing to get to the carb will be the water you may have just poured in the tank.

Odly enough, ethanol gas will allow the water to mix ( missable) with the gas and still support combustion. Quite a lot of water and it will still run, but pretty crappy.

I'm guessing if you pull the bowl and drain a half cup into a mason jar, you will see the water separate. Once flowing only gas, reassemble and fire it up.

thanks guys. fuel is not old, or bottom of tank. so it did run for a while after i got it going. im thinking some linkaged is messed up. full choke and full throttle it ran fine. what would cause that?
    btw this is a 250cc b&s 7hp. maybe 100hrs.

Check your fuel bowl jet. Might have had something get into it

Then you have a dirty carb. There are 2 circuits in a carb. The low speed circuit has very small passages that easily become partially blocked. Running with the choke on will allow it to stay idling, but it's gonna run like shit.

You can try cleaning it, but I've never had good luck with that. I usually replace a lightly varnished carb.

Some have tried running acetone in the gas to break down the varnish. Sea foam is mostly acetone.

This. You can find aftermarket carburetors on eBay for almost everything. Also, I've found shutting down infrequently used engines by using the fuel shut off is preferable to the kill switch.

Fun fact, if you suck up and mow over a conveyor belt it shortens the lifespan... :anonymous:

im going to drain the carb bowl and assume all is well. it ran top notch before re-fuel. it has never given me grief. ill start there and go further if i must.
