I opted for the ceramic coating at the car wash today...

 

The deer here get more scared if you slow down.
If you drive by normal speed they stand still.
If you slow down, they must think you “spotted them” and they run.

The show's location was a dead zone, and we are now heading back home; Amanda has probably not driven on the turnpike since she first got her license, so I'm letting her drive home...

This weekend was very busy! It included two car shows, one of which was held at one of the most controversial and infamous mental institutions in the country! My friend Shane from middle school, who still lives in Washington state and is an OTR truck driver, also happened to be in the area for work and treated us to a ride in his Freightliner! Stay tuned for photos!

 

Pennhurst Asylum is located in Spring City, Pennsylvania. The notorious mental institution first opened in 1908 and was finally closed down in 1987 after the atrocious conditions there first came to light in the late 1960s. The facility was left to rot for about two decades, and a combination of mother nature and vandalism severely damaged the buildings. An investor bought the property in about 2007 or 2008, and by 2010 had transformed it into a haunted attraction. The haunted attraction is only open in September and October, but most of the buildings remain and are open for tours; @Stitchgirl90 and I went on a self-guided tour of the Mayflower building after spending several hours wandering the car show, and it was incredible to say the least! I took these pictures in the parking lot shortly after we arrived...

 

This makes two famous (and creepy) locations in Pennsylvania that my truck has been to!

HINT: One of the stickers in my back window is a pretty obvious hint as to the other creepy location my truck has visited...

I am happy to say that yesterday marks only the second time in my 35 years on this planet that I have ever been to a mental institution! The first time was years ago (I can't remember what year, or whether it was before or after COVID), when I delivered a DoorDash order to a nurse at the Horsham Clinic...

So yeah, contrary to popular belief, I am not crazy...

 

My dad is an OTR trucker.
I seen all I want of them.

Went out with him once, Never again.
Me and him can't be in that small of an area for that long of a time. (5 days).
Nope. Never again.

 

Luckily, this was only about an hour ride with no trailer attached; Shane needed to refuel the closest station that could accommodate a big rig was a rest stop on the turnpike about twenty minutes away from the shopping center where we met up. It was my fourth ride in a tractor trailer (2 times with my friend Dave in 2010 and 2013, and another time with Shane in 2022) and @Stitchgirl90's first; I imagine that being in a rig with someone for days could get old, but short joyrides are fun!

 

My dad is an OTR driver because he doesn't "get along well with others".
Sure the money is good, but there's a reason he's OTR. God help his wife when he retires.
He's been marries 5 times....Probably be a 5th divorce when he retires.
