Can’t you wake up super early and enter before 6am or something, or did they change the rules again?

 

What I was reading presented as pretty black and white, no ‘appointment’ no entry. Worth some digging though, your version of the policy would be a little more reasonable (I’d like to think early birds tend to be better park guests than average as well; but maybe that’s shifting too).

 

The parks reservation system is one of my least favorite by-products the pandemic. You cant just hit national parks on a whim anymore. If you didnt plan your trip months in advance, and want to stop because you have time on a road trip, tough shit. It's thrown a wrench in plans more than once.

My parents are visiting and trying to see RMNP while they are here, so we just went through this horse shit today. Pretty sure you can enter before 9am without a timed entry pass. Additional timed entry passes become available for the following day at 7pm the night before, so you can try to snipe one. If you're desperate, you can try a camping pass, but I think that's still an afternoon entry on the evening you're camping, and obviously more expensive.

You could probably call and get clarification much faster than trying to navigate their website to find all the rules and restrictions.

 

Where did you hear about entry before 9am? I've been told, and on the website, that you need a pass even at 5am. And the best part? NO GUARANTEED PARKING. So they'll let you in then wave you good luck. And bear lake access is a different, more expensive pass and you'll still need to arrive very early for a good chance at parking. The park is just too popular now during high season so I understand the need for limiting access, but it still feels sucky. They do reserve something like up to 40% of tickets to be sold the night before a day you'd like to go, which sounds like that's reasonable odds to snag one but I have never tried. Best thing to do is go on a weekday and avoid holiday week(end)s.

The State and Fed Camping reservation system is broken. It is only a money maker for the vendor and screws a lot of people out of having a site to camp in. Having to book six months in advance is one thing but when the two week booking sits empty because the camper's did not show or cancel the part of the reservation they did not want that is BS. There needs to be a three strikes your out clause to stop the abuse - or better yet a one week max in a camp ground and no reservation required - first come first serve only.

 

Don't forget that their are 2 timed entry deals at RMNP- need the plus for Bear Lake road and no early entry there.

i know i saw thing where a guy asks his local PD if having snow on your car is illegal, or frowned upon, they responded yes, then he sent a pic of a cop car driving around with snow on its windscreen.

 

That's the one I was remembering.

 

There's a "Colorado Campsite Sell/Transfer" page on FB that might be worth following for those looking for last minute sites. Doesn't help with the entry time issue though

What was unclear was is they allowed entry before 9; so I did the unfathomable and called the park office and talked to a very helpful human. They confirmed entry is permitted with no pass outside of the stated hours **except for Bear Lake which can ONLY be accessed with a pass**.

 

I now have the desire to rip thru the park at 6am with my straight piped Harley and clear it out for the rest.

 

Straight piped Harley is never the answer. Especially with what you suggest of ruining the habitat for all the animals.

Well, it’s about as clear as I would expect from any government agency…

 

Door hardware is ridiculously overpriced, and I like to capitalize on that when I can.
This is a median price for a simple door spacer to allow commercial locks that normally fit 1 3/4" doors to be fitted to 1 3/8" doors.
There are of course generic products for a fraction of that cost, but we aren't doing that.
Price is per each, you need two. These also need to be in black as black is the current favorite finish for this decade.

So I made some, since the customer is in a bind and forgot to order them. They need 8 total.
