Love my Yoko Geolanders. Easy to balance, quiet in the road, can take a punishment, and unlike the shitastic nittos they replaced, they actually have traction in the wet.
Even with the latest Yotawerx tune :D

My whole adult life I've been terrified of E rated tires because of everyone saying how they destroyed ride quality and murdered gas mileage. When I finally jumped in and tried them......they're totally fine lol. I will only run E tires from now on actually because I like knowing my tire can take more abuse.

I'm currently waffling between the new Falken Wildpeak AT4W and MT Baja Boss A/Ts. The AT4W comes in a 35x11.5r17 C, which is pretty appealing for a bit thinner tire. The Bajas only come in a 35x12.5r17, but its D rated, so a bit heavier. Both are 3PMS rated though.

Edit: the bajas are also $100 more per tire lol

Not to call you wrong. But that statement is fairly blanketed. E rated are more punishing on parts, do have a harsher ride and do hurt mileage along with reduce power.

Fiancés truck is our dedicated hunting, fishing rig and sees lots of dirt/harsh terrain. That’s on C’s. Noticeably better than E’s in all departments. We have yet to puncture one either.

My prerunner is on D’s. I’m consistently aired down to mid upper teens. Again no punctures.

Ideally, wheel and tire package should be kept as light as possible for the size you are running. This will 100% prolong the life of parts as well as help power and fuel economy.

The nice thing about the pedal commander is adjustability.
To those who think it doesn't work......
I say, try crawling in 4L sometime.

Truck was so jumpy in any setting above City +. I had to drop it down closer to ECO.

I just did some figuring this morning and I have almost 70% of the original tread on my toyos with around 54,000 miles. The Yokohamas I figure have around 34,000 miles, and are at 65%, which I think is pretty nice for mud tires that I beat the shit out of

I've been considering the possibility for the next set.

I'm surprised you'd say that about the Geolandar MT. I've had mine since January of 2021, and been extremely happy with them. But, they're the only mud tire I have run.

The only real complaint I've seen about them on the forums was from someone saying they had shitty wet traction On pavement. But, if you're expecting good wet traction on pavement out of a mud terrain, you are probably a dipshit.

This is also very surprising to hear. I've driven the Toyos in all kinds of conditions over the last 4 years, and never felt disappointed.

But, since I have the mud tires for summer shenanigans, I'm probably going to replace them with a set of Geolandar ATG015's for fall, winter, and spring Duty when they wear out.

It seems like this really comes down to the particular tire. My Yokohama MT's are E and ride pretty nice, IMO (aside from noise).

They definitely do reduce my fuel economy and acceleration, though.

I don't think I'd enjoy driving on a full mud tire.
I'm only part dipshit...I knew the x's were going to be a little slicker than A/T.
Was a little more than I expected.....

couldn't imagine full on mud tire on wet pavement.

Oh I'm in full agreement with you, all those things are true, but they also are blown out of proportion on the forums. It will stiffen up the ride a little bit more and make your gas mileage go down a little bit but according to people on the forums it will ride like a covered wagon and get 7 miles per gallon

It sounds like you expected reduced traction, so I wouldn't say that applies to you.

I was referring to this guy who periodically posts in the Yokohamas G003 thread to say that they're garbage because they have bad wet traction. And, he wasn't even comparing them to other MT's.

More pronounced with the larger tire sizes. I will say with my 33s.... The Es have been fine. And it's a manual with 33s armor and factory gears, so it's already slow :bananadead:

Pedal commander doesn't do anything for the Atkinson cycle or the shift logic in the transmission. :D

Mine rides like a covered wagon that gets 17-19 mpg when I'm just driving. Over 20 when I'm actually trying lol.

Sometimes I like to just gun it in 4Lo. It makes it feel pretty quick for a second. :burnrubber:

I always put mine in 2 low when backing in somewhere. I’ve almost gone through walls forgetting it’s in low

Lol! It's amazing what a difference a little gear reduction makes.

Definitely doesn’t help being a manual. Let that clutch out too quick and hang on!

I was just thinking about the 2lo mod this past weekend. Is it pretty simple?

I have an FJ case that’s twin sticked. Which IMO is the best route to take. Outside of FJ case questions I really can’t answer that question.

Dont you have a manual Transfer case? Pull it out and set it up for twin sticks. Easy peasy.

Pizza cutters will be my next tire. Wildepeak's or Kenda's. The Kenda's are 3PMS rated and the price is too good to not consider them.
Baja Boss 255/85 17's were on my short list. The 85 aspect ratio eliminated them from contention. Similar issues as 285's with a big, negative offset on a 4Runner. BMC, pinch weld hammering, facia trimming, caster push. An 80 ratio is the tallest I think I can go can go in 255's. Some one on 4Runners Forum put 255/80's on his truck. He said there were no issues with stock wheels.

The 275 C load Wildepeaks have been on for 3 years and 70,000 miles ( 5 tire rotate ) and still going strong. Hell Dan, you walked up the one rock while the rest of us had some issues.
I never paid much attn to tires 'til I bought a 4R. It was always "how cool do they look". Hadn't been concerned about load rating until I bought my 1st set of tires for ALF. I have 285 Goodyears Load E on the silverado. These are my 2nd set for this truck and it is a beast in the snow. 273,000 miles, only suspension issues were wheel bearings once and the turn-buckle thingys for the alignment, 2 years ago.

    Baja prices are crazy.
Ummmm, I set my Pedal Commander to Sport 2 when it was installed almost 3 years ago. It's never been touched since. And I have a KD-Max tune. I don't try to crawl in 4L, I do it.
