Actually- here it is: 2003. NASCAR actually seized the car and took back to Charlotte for R&D:

Interesting. Yeah I don't remember that at all. Then again, at that time I was still rooting for Terry Labonte (and hoping for a finish above 30th) and didn't pay much attention to anyone but him and Mark Martin (my brother's favorite). We also had dial-up internet so if it wasn't in the paper or on the news, I likely missed it.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
Larson spotted the entire field a race and is back in the points lead. Insane, and people were bitching that he got a waiver. Here is how they should make the rule. You don't get points for a race you don't start and you have to be in the top 16 in points at the end of the regular season.

On that note, Chase Elliott has been having a quietly good season and sits in 2nd. Also saw that he punted Chastain after having a front row seat to Chastain Chastaining Kyle Busch.

Chase is having an okay season. Needs to win some stages and get a couple more W's though. I think he is the most consistent driver but the issue is that he is consistently not fast enough to win.

Yeah the number of templates increased year over year, which led to the COT or "Common Template" car as it was known for a hot minute.

Rumor has it RCR already bought an SHR charter and they're bringing Noah and Bass Pro over. The one hanging point is whether MTJ will retire, freeing up Bass Pro to sponsor Noah fully rather than 1/2 the season.

Silly Season gets even sillier because JGR could release MTJ to retirement (or part-time Xfinity ride with JRM) and possibly have a KFB reunion, bringing the #18 back to the track. So PopPop has to decide: Release KFB from his final year to secure Noah and Bass Pro sponsorship or hold onto KFB and try to secure additional funding for the third team.

If MTJ gets put out to pasture and Bass Pros goes full time to Pop Pop with Noah and KFB goes to the 18 who sponsors KFB?

Great question. Probably an amalgamation of personal sponsors and TRD. I know TRD didn't want to lose him and had put up considerable $ for JGR negotiations. Could he also be a seat warmer at 23XL until Denny moves over? Perhaps split time once they're both a little older? I know Kyle wants to have more family time to support Brexton's hobby.

    just Q....
    presently....
do NASCAR tech officials still use templates or simpler to use laser technology (that spinning thing to measure)?
    thanks

They use the laser measurement and have for a few years.

I just don't see Busch going back to JGR next year. What would be the point in RCR buying a 3rd charter if they need to move sponsors by releasing Busch to secure Gragson? Busch signed a 2 year contract with a 3rd year option that Richard has. I don't see Richard letting that option go. I think the rumor is mainly just wishful thinking among certain fans. KBM is no more and RCR has also offered a seat to Brexton when he's old enough and I don't see that happening if Kyle goes back to JGR.

Agreed. Seems to be the case. He’ll stay put at RCR

Truex would still have to retire and/or Denny would have to leave for 23XI too. The Iceberg theorized that Martin could stay on another season, giving JGR time to secure sponsorship. But I also just don't see them prioritizing Busch over another, younger driver in the pipeline.
