I was thinking about installing the Bilstein Ride Height Adjustables on the front and adding a 1" leaf in the rear of my '11 DC. I was talking with the owner at the local 4X4 shop and he told me he just put an add a leaf on a 2nd Gen and the guy had axle issues, the wheels hopped. Has anyone heard of this? Or added leafs to a 2nd Gen? Where there issues? Any input would be appreciated.

Some people get vibs and few minor issues some do not. If you do do an aal, make sure to get axle shims and carrier bearing spacers from toytec to help eliminate those sorts of issues.

I heard they work on first gens though....you guys are so lucky :pout:

Seriously though OP, just search around here a little bit and you'll find that probably 3/4 of the trucks on this site have added a leaf. Most have no issues at all.

I had 2" AAL's installed on my truck when new. I've never had vibration issues and don't have any shims/spacers installed. Also, I've never had any wheel hop or axle wrap.

It would have been funnier if your post was right after the OP's but since it didn't I just find it kind of sad. Work on the three minute deficit next time.

I'm in Canada and we have four leafs from the factory. I just added a 5th AAL yesterday and I have minor vibes when I accelerate from a stop and hit 5mph. I have an appointment for an alignment on Monday. If the vibes are still there, I'll try the shims. However, the vibes are pretty minor.

When you guys went 2'' in back, how much did you go up front? I was thinking of leveling the suspension all at one time.

I originally went for 3 inches up front to level but the cv boot ribs were riding each other (even with the differential drop spacers) and the headlights aimed up in the air when the boat was hooked up. I lowered the front to 2" of lift to cure the problem. The truck sits 1" higher in the back with the 2" aal's and the weight of a snugtop canopy...looks like the factory stance but sits 2" higher. Also, I ended up going to a 265/75/16 tire (helped fill the wheel wells.)

Bilstein 5100 all around set at 2.5. 1.5 AAL in the rear. 265/75/16 Hancook Dynapro MTs on Black Moto Metal 951s. Black badges. Aftermarket grill. TRD seat covers.
i just installed my 5100s set at 2.5 and AAL at 1.5 and i havent had one vib at all, it feels the same but rides alot better. Each truck is different so u never know but i would install the AAL first before u buy a shim to see if ur gunna need it or not

Did your Taco have the Rear TSB or 3 Springs before the AAL?
