Motor is in. Trans is completely mounted. All connectors are connected. Long weekend, so didn’t finish. The boys POS Chevy trax needed a new water pump, so had to play Mobil mechanic. He’s all good now. All that’s left is filling the trans, filling the motor, connecting headers to down pipe, both drive shafts, installing radiator and filling, then intake. Should be able to complete all that after work tonight.

 

This may be redundant but I'll post it anyway. Once it is ready to start cranking, have the fuel pump relay out. Crank it until the oil lamp on the dash goes away. That means the sensor is reading roughly 20 psi. Then add in the relay and start it up.

 

I was planning to pour oil down the filter run to get some fluid down in the pump. Currently the fuel relay is still out and I did plan to crank it with out fuel. But now I’ll crank like you said.

 

I like to crank without plugs and fuel pump relay so there is very little resistance for the motor to turn and no fuel

 

What is the idea on all this, to get the oil distributed in all the cylinder walls before combustion starts burning it all off? Just curious.

 

To reduce the possibility for dry start wear. Basically priming the circulatory system before the stresses of combustion.

 

That is a good step to add as well.

 

All the rest of the small stuff completed last night. Went to put the intake plenum on and noticed it had some red dirt in it. Maybe from sitting, not sure. Stopped at 8pm and am gonna wash the intake out tonight after work. While it’s drying, I’ll fill everything with fluid and will fire this baby up tonight.

Got the ole brick running last night. Runs damn good. Driving to work this morning and the damn lower radiator hose pops off. Luckily I caught that as I looked in my rear view mirror seeing something spraying. Now just gotta wait til they open. Get 3 gallons of coolant and a hose clamp

 

Good catch! I bet that was a bit of a scare. Otherwise, I am super happy for you.

 

I reconnected it with the OE clamp and I was able to pull it off by hand, so there’s the problem. The rest were tight.

 

Not a bad shake down, glad it was caught. Bet it feels good to be back on the road.
