Teachers needed to get the other kids out of harms way and took them to another room and locked themselves in... I have made no comment on my opinions of the parenting. Point being regardless of if she is a terrible parent or the best parent in the world, 99% of the time a parent knows how to calm the kid down and take him home better than anyone else. Therefore she may be the problem, no one knows, but she definitely could have been the solution.

Talking to a kid involves more then " hey don't do that again, ok? ok good done"... 8 year olds understand reasoning but if you as a parent don't and think mindless punishment is the answer then your kid won't understand reasoning either. I'm in no way saying there shouldn't be punishment in a childs life, but to think eight year olds don't understand reasoning and it is impossible to talk to a kid to get him to calm down? That's just asinine.

There are adults who are fully capable of being logical and reasonable who get twice as angry and violent when told by someone else to chill out. I would not a second grader in the middle of a full blown violent rage tantrum to just relax cause the nice police officer asked him to.

And lets not forget- THIS WAS HIS 3RD INCIDENT INVOLVING POLICE AT THE SCHOOL. You think they haven't talked to him?? I doubt it.

This whole situation is so whack on so many levels. While I don't give one shit that they pepper-sprayed the kid, the teachers seriously couldn't just grab whatever he was holding and put him in a headlock or something? He's in second grade, he is fucking tiny. I hope the pepper-spray burned the fuck out of his eyes, though.

i guess what im trying to get at is that their has to be a reason in their mind they dont want to do something. if they know all that is going to happen is get a talking to then they are more likey to do something wrong than if they knew there would be a steeper punishment.

basically this kid now knows that if he doesnt listen to the police and tries to hurt people they will spray his ass.

maybe the a 2nd grader cant reason isnt what i was trying to get across

If this 8 year old is so capable of reasoning and using logic, he should have clearly understood that his actions were going to have consequences. You grab weapon, they disobey the police when they tell you to put it down, you can 'reasonably' conclude an ass-whipping is going to occur.

And as far as the 'he was only 8, thats too excessive' argument. If a grown man does it, they get shot. They elected not to pump him full of lead, instead just bathing him in hot sauce. No big deal
