Will Tacoma's suffer the same engine failure fate as the Tundra?

I think the bigger part of this problem is the big increase in msrp and the super high finance rates. The poor QC issues are just the additional stink on the turd.

 

The recall literally just came out dude. Like a week ago. Let's talk sales next month and the remaining year.

 

Its based of the NX engine that's been around a few years.

 

Wow, Tundra early adopters are totally screwed from all sides. No one looking out for the customer here - not sure how you sell any Tundras in this environment when the dealer selling it to you wouldn't want it back.

 

Right, GM dealer wont even take it on trade in one situation. My guy called yesterday saying he could get me $10k off a limited, I said no thanks.

 

Yeah, ask them to throw in two spare replacement engines in crates and the $10K, and maybe we can figure out a deal.

 

Yea that's what I thought. I don't think I've heard of anything major going wrong with this motor or I'm just unaware. I'd feel more confident with a Tacoma over a Tundra right now. 2025 will be the 4th year of the current Tundra generation and they still appear to be beautiful looking ticking time bombs. Hard Pass!!

 

My concern is mostly with the Mexico factories - if the engines are assembled there... the tolerances seem pretty loose on anything coming out of those plants.

 

I saw a new looked like a 24 Tundra with a temp tag earlier, the recall notice must be tuff to hear when the truck is that new.

I think most Tundras will be fine, but the ones that are not?

 

Carvana prices go up or down depending on their inventory. If they have a bunch of Tundras, your offer is lower.

 

Tundra has the same failures in two different US assembly plants.

 

Then it seems to be 100% design or at least factory design/SOP.

 

It is, the machine debris is a scape goat excuse. Imagine if Toyota admitted a design issue in their reliable full size. Lots of videos on the likely cause, think oil starvation and something with cam design.

 

I am hearing a lot of Tundra owners say "Well I have 50k mileage on mine, so I must be in the clear". No one knows if these engines will have a higher probability of grenading at 80, 90, 100, 110k miles, etc. I imagine a slight starvation of oil to the main bearings will reduce overall engine lifespan and these trucks are so new that it is really uncharted territory at this point.

I feel like emission regs really forced Toyota to do something they normally do not do. That is putting a fairly complex motor into a volume vehicle. If I were in the full-size market and wanted a turbo engine, I would probably go with a Ford. While the EcoBoosts have had their share of problems, Ford has been cranking them out for 15 years and they are fairly reliable now. Especially the 2.7.

To get back on topic though, the Tacoma turbo 4 seems like a much simpler motor than the TT V6 and I wouldn't have too many concerns over it, but I guess time will tell.

 

Time will tell with the tacoma, I'd say give it about a year. Engine is also used in some lexus vehicles and highlander.

 

Gotta hurt brand image.
