What did you 3D print today?

Ah. I get the picture now. Every printer seems to have its quirks.

 

lol, it messed with me until 10pm last night, then gave up.
This morning, Damn near had the thing entirely disassembled, in stages, and was starting to curse at it. There is a lot of time involved with making a slight or major adjustment, then a test print, then repeat, etc...
Then I noticed the slight play in the gantry, and while test printing, held the end up gently with my finger and watched the first layer smooth right out.
That prompted a more thorough visual search, and found the two screws on the back that allow that adjustment to be made. Reddit confirmed it and gave me the soup can idea.
Now I can enjoy the rest of my Sunday

 

I can't tell you how many times I've been there. Making wild adjustments in the slicer, checking filament, checking my nozzles, throwing random parts at it, and all the while it was a loose roller or something equally stupid and simple.

 

Time for the Belt-driven Z-axis mod

I installed it on my Ender3V2, but I can’t provide feedback on how well it works because I still need to finish up the linear rail X-axis mod

 

One of these days I really want to do the rails on my X and Y.

 

This being a cheap printer, not sure if any upgrades would be a benefit. I've replaced the CPU cooling fan so far due to it failing, that was cheap and easy. Everything else has been me learning what not to do and how to fix it. A couple weeks ago the print head and the bed were both very loose, it never occurred to me to check the Z axis as it has weight on it and doesn't move as easily.
It seems to be working like it did when new now.

 

All that for a cup holder for mom's treadmill. She likes to drink tea from these mason jars with a handle while she takes a walk.

 

Hey y’all, I was sent here from the PC builders thread. I work at a school where I was asked to set up three ASUS computers and two printers. I’m completely new to printing but I had a little experience doing 2D CAD at a summer internship 24 years ago so there’s that

Any helpful advice on fast tracking myself to learn the software and hardware for our printers and workstations?

 

Yeah... Get an ender 3. You'll be tinkering non stop with that thing and you'll learn how everything works while tweaking, and upgrading the darned thing.

 

I'm not too familiar with the Robo line of printers. I guess that they are designed for educational projects?

It looks like their support page has all kinds of user guides. Setting up and installing is easy. Using ANY kind of printer will need a local expert on site. I'm guessing that you will be the on-site educator? For set up, the more solid your base is, the better. Don't put it on a wobbly table or in a place that will easily be bumped.


99% of printing is "make sure that the bed is level," "make sure your Z-offset is dialed correctly," and "make sure that every single part is tightened and torqued (especially along each direction of travel)." I'd be going through the user guides and making notes on how to check those three basic principles. Everything else will be click and go, and pretty intuitive.

How much did the school pay for that and can you return it?

On a more serious note, as @Rock Lobster said, mostly you will need to know how to level the bed and be familiar with the motion components (belts, motors) to check them periodically for tightness. You will also need to learn how to load/unload/change filament. Check the printer's specs on what filament and materials are supported.

 

We had a 200+k grant for stuff and the director is not a computer guy at all - he talks about wanting to retire and go off grid (although I think being a computer guy would actually set you up better initially to learn all the stuff you’d need to be aware of to do that lol)

 

It looks like the 2 printer bundle comes with a 2 hour training session. I'd call dibs on that if I were the guy installing the stuff.

 

Has anyone made a cup holder insert for the 1st gen center console with the squares (that would actually hold cups snugly)? Figured I'd ask before I work on it

Get something with autolevelling.

Really, it depends if you want to spend your time futzing with it, or making stuff.

 

Warning: choosing to futz with a creality printer may on occasion produce the side effect of wishing you could drop kick it into the next area code.
