I'll usually refill right when my light comes on if I'm riding around town. If I'm out on the open road if I have a "bar" missing I'll usually stop, that's typically when I'm at a half tank.

In my neck of the woods depending on where you are in the state it's not hard for there to be 100+ miles in between gas stations. I was riding along the Washington/Oregon border, on the Washington side many years ago and my estimated range was down to 2 miles when I pulled into a gas station. I went something like 160 miles between seeing them. I don't take that side of the river anymore haha

bought the BMW at 35k, now it's at 60k. 2 years
bought the R3 at 22k, it's now at 26k in about 3 months of riding it
My first bike I put about 4k miles on it in a year, from 7k-11k

I don't really track my per gallon consumption. I do the trip meter thing like mentioned so I have an idea when to fill up before the light comes on, could get about 140-150 out of a tank. seems to be about the same full tank mileage across all the bikes.

I use the fuelly app on my phone, same as you see in my sig here for my Tacoma. Every mile of ownership is recorded. Every tank of gas, wiper blade, filter, record when I hit the zerks, rotate the tires, change a bulb, on every vehicle i have, and even on my GF's and her kids cars ( i do all the oil changes etc) just so I know how long they've gone .I love it. Easy to print out a report when you sell the vehicle too. Seller is usually impressed. This is my current 'garage'. Tacomaand 4 moto's are me. The Sentra and CX9 are others currently in my care. No fuel data on those. One of the better apps I've ever used.

    upload_2024-6-13_16-25-44.png

so far on my current Tacoma....I did the same for my previous Tacoma and included all data when I sold it. Buyer loved it.

The fuel stops can be stressful, especially at night when it's impossible to get a legible pic of my dash lol

Also realized I was getting better mileage on our trip than I thought I would. Beforehand I had been saving receipts doing the math to get my range estimate. But on our ride with all the highway and being easy on the throttle the whole time found that I can go over 200 miles a tank where I'd been thinking 180-190 would be my max. Definitely can fluctuate quite a bit. And yeah my bike's calculations are never accurate, especially MPG.

I'll throw in my odometer readings as well...

Husky: purchased new in Jan 2023 with 0 miles - currently at 5,800
KTM: purchased used in Aug 2023 with 2,300 miles - currently at 6,700

I use Fuelly for my 4runner, but have a little pocket sized notebook for each vehicle to track maintenance, parts, and such. Notebook goes with whenever I sell things.

Just think, 1200 of those KTM miles only took about 25 hours!

Yeah pretty funny that single ride accounts for 1/4 of the total miles I've put on that bike. I actually haven't ridden it since that day, the 701 has been getting all the love lately. I need to go for a nice ride on the KTM this weekend. I do want to plan more longer trips too, especially now that I have a better feel for how far I can go.

I've been riding my 14 FJR most of the time. I did manage to score a set of highway pegs and installed them on the 13 so next trip I can move my feet.

Did you get your IBA plate backer yet?

Nice they help a lot I’m sure. The 13 just needs a matching Penske and you’ll be good to go!

Plate backer hasn’t arrived yet, I think the email said it could be a few weeks so hopefully soon I’ll be official

I am the same for the most part on a moto. But knowing how far a tank can go on the conservative side helps plan things in longer routes.

My late 919 - 140mi before reserve light religiously regardless if it was a mob the canyons day or highway cruise ~ 45mpg

Dirtbike (this one is big cus as it's being remote typically) - 30mpg = 90mi of rang. (It gets about 35mpg if it's a mellow ride and has a little bit more than 3 gal but again conservative).

Super tenere - this one I always play at 200mi a tank this gives me very conservative numbers but allows me to stretch and take a piss haha.... Day to day on it... I fill up when needed.

The round town xt225 I just run it till I hit reserve and flip it over and make a point of going to a gas station the next outing. It ends up being like 55-60 mpg but it doesn't go on long rides so I'm not worried so much.

I got the Super Tenere at 13,799 in December last year, I'm at 23,86x right now. Grom is at ~2100 miles, KTM is at 1,0xx miles.

For whatever reason this thought stuck in my head last night so here it is. What brands of bikes have you owned and what brands have you ridden? Thinking demo day event, rode a friend's bike that sort of thing. I have a friend who tracks that sort of thing and he's ridden an insane amount of different manufacturers. I'll start.

Owned: Buell, Cagiva, Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha

Ridden: BMW, Ducati, Excelsior Henderson, Harley Davidson, Moto Guzzi, Suzuki, Triumph

Dealer near me is having demo day tomorrow for the Zero motorcycles, thinking about going just to add to my list.
