Are you getting into urban exploration or something Charlie?

 

Pennhurst Asylum closed in December 1987, and the wheelchairs that I saw scattered about seemed to be of a 1980s style...

 

I guess you say that, but urban exploration isn't really legal; Pennhurst Asylum was closed in 1987 but has been open to the public since 2010. There's a little town near a nuclear power plant maybe an hour from me called Frick's Lock that was bought out by the power company due to contamination. My friends have gone there, but unlike Centralia it is not open. You can walk in, but there are cameras everywhere and there is a very good chance you will be leaving in the back of a cop car if you get caught...

 

A lot of those security and cops won't take you away if you're not vandalizing things. It's the safety concerns at the forefront when they come for you if you have a camera and some lights. I really like watching The Proper People on YouTube and they seem to get away by being careful and respectful. They're just documenting things, which to an officer used to dealing with vandals and people looking for a spot to do drugs is likely a breath of fresh air.

 

I've never come close to getting arrested, but prior unpleasant experiences with security guards have made it highly unlikely that I will be pleasant to one when confronted...

 

Security guards are nothing, police are the only ones with any ability or authority.

 

I've never really had a bad experience with police, but back in 2013 I got stopped in Doylestown for taking pictures. Four cops showed up for a report of a guy with a camera, and I'm not only autistic but aside from an innocuous traffic stop when I was 17 that I didn't get a ticket for, that was my very contact with police (I was on foot, not in my truck) It left me traumatized and with a disdain for cops that lasted until probably the summer of 2020. They interrogated me for twenty minutes, asked to see the pictures on my camera, and asked me a lot of other things that I felt were absolutely none of their business...

 

I believe this was a bathroom...

 

Once again, I thought I saw a straitjacket...

 

I actually don't remember what the hell it was, but it wasn't a straitjacket; I'm 99.9% straitjackets were used in this place right up until the bitter end. FYI, my friend Gwyn worked at a facility that was still using straitjackets on kids in 1999...
