What is behind this gasket? I’m still fighting this awful squeak coming from my steering wheel mount when I lift up on it. I’d love to get verification that this is a bolt that can be tightened as mine feels loose and squeaks. Does anyone have any pictures of what’s behind this? It’s not the steering wheel believe it lol it’s the actual metal bracket that attaches to the firewall and it creeks been driving me nuts since week one

Not 100% but typically its a bolt that holds the HVAC unit to the firewall.

That is a grommet, not a gasket.

Anyway, why don't you just remove it and find out?

You should very, very, very easily be able to remove the grommet with a simple trim tool. HTH

It's a large unit, pull the plug and see. It's likely a 12mm fastener.

my guess is it's just a hole plug grommet that covers where the windshield deicer wire harness would usually route thru on higher trims?

I believe the OP has not yet taken his cowling off, the picture was a copy and post.

correct :) if it doesn’t go to what I need it to there is no need for me to remove the cowl and waste my time so I’m looking for verification. I have 2 young boys and a house built 200 years ago with a wife who has a to do list the size of the new Testament so it would be nice to really know what that goes to and if it would fix my squeak without just jumping into it blindly and then being like “oh shhh%*”

Did you ever take your Combination Meter out? If so, you might be able to see that area.

I just looked up behind my dash and there is a steering column support screw in what seems to be the general area.

I have driven around for sometime without the trim in place and the 4 screws holding the Combo Meter in place removed. Perhaps this would make it easier to troubleshoot that area. Just do not drive without the Combo Meter in place.

Yea, I did :) I was able to pin point the sound to that bracket that you mentioned. When I lift up on the steering wheel and place my hand on that bracket I can physically feel and hear that bracket creek. Only problem is I have no idea how to tighten it from the inside.

If you decide to remove the cowl: be careful with the clips that go in those rectangular holes. A glass place I used broke two - three of them on the drivers side, I was doing the passenger side and broke none. Just take your time.
