Ding, ding, ding, ding..... The answer is, many of the same people who then complain about markups. The thing is, these trucks are already expensive enough. Stop paying the markups. Kill the demand, and kill the markup. If that doesn't work, then be happy with what you're driving and just laugh and wave at the other idiots on the road, 95% of whom are buried in needless debt and will end up paying far more at the end of their loan than the original 'markup' price.

Every dealer I visited in the past week offered me under MSRP. Here is how the conversation goes...

Me:" I am looking for a tacoma off road 24"
Sales: "I got 1 or 3 of those. Have you talked to other dealers"
Me: "Yes, but they dont have the one I want but they offered me a discount of 2800.00 on the trucks they had."
Sales: "Do you have that in writing?"
Me: "No, but thats what I expect since several dealers have offered similar discounts"
Sales: "What if I offer you 2k discount"
    Me: "not enough"
Sales: "Would 3k be good enough?"
Me:"Me, now you have my attention, send me the info on the trucks you have"

I believe that if you try harder you can get a bigger discount. When I bought mine on Sunday, we also got an additional 500.00 discount. They will try to fuck with you when you go in. When I showed up the dealer, they showed me only a 1,800 discount. I told them, you give me the right number discussed on the phone or I will walk out. Be ready to walk out if they dont. I have never paid MSRP for a car, and I was not to start on this my second tacoma. I enjoy the truck alot.

And not to overstate the obvious, watch out for "sneaky" dealer option mandatory add-ons and miscellaneous taxes and BS fees they sometimes can't explain ("our manager is the only one who can explain/itemize the fees, and they're on vacation, but I've been told this price is only good until lunch because we have someone coming in to look at this very truck.")....other than it got the dealer back their buyer discounts. Had that happen so many times when shopping for my 24. Sometimes my $1600 discount was better than a $3000 discount when OTD was calculated.

TL;DR know your OTD price including tax.

Well done, i hope you enjoy new truck, i have been looking at several dealerships over last few months and its becoming obviouse they are feeling it , im sure allocations are already being set for 2025 orders and owners are being told move those trucks…enough of the bullshit.
Toyota has had a rough year in the press as well ,and taking some hits across the board.
This morning i looked at a dealership online site in Daytona beach florida , they are showing MSRP, and those prices have a line across every add , so they are doing deals under MSRP….. i wonder when 2025 inventory begins showing up ? Anybody know

Last Saturday, I local dealer here in San Diego called me since I was submitting request on the trucks. This particular dealer has been struggling getting Tacomas other than the SR5. There about 5 SR5s sitting on their lot. I told him that I was looking for an off road trim and he noted he has about 10 of them coming in the next couple of weeks. So I imagine they will get here just before July. He did not seem surprised at the fact that all the other dealers were selling below MSRP. Obviously, you are on the other side of the country so this shipment may not impact your location but I would think that they are more coming soon.

Just tell them... you want 3k off and go get a loan from a credit union.

In 2015 I requested the dealership invoice from multiple dealers. Some did and others did not let you see the invoice. . I purchased my 2015 TRD OR in March 2015 $200.00 over invoice. $2000 under MSRP.
Go at the end of the month and be patient.

I was under the impression the true dealer price, and the distributor price from Toyota, were closely guarded secrets. I didn’t think anyone other than owners had that info.

I think it's pretty close. When I was dickering, I told (wrote) my dealer saying the invoice was #50,480 and he replied, "it's actually $49,947." So it was within $500.

I got the truck–an OR with a Premium package and mud flaps–for $51,500 out-the-door. I think it's reasonable. Now, if the boys in Baja would just get it bolted together. :fingerscrossed:

10-12% below MSRP is a good target.

Either that or a crazy greedy dealer wanting $132,256 additional dealer profit.
