    Dry fit MX4
upload_2024-6-14_20-14-12.jpgSeems to fit somewhat. Pulled it back off. Tomorrow I will apply black Permatex under the rails and front panel then reinstall. I didn’t get the drop down brackets with it to my dismay. But I’m not paying 3+hundred for them so this is what I got to work with.
upload_2024-6-14_20-17-48.jpgupload_2024-6-14_20-24-13.jpgupload_2024-6-14_20-18-37.jpgI won’t even go into the clustefuck rail system I got but it’s a 2 piece (each side) clamp deal using the existing rail that hinders the cleats positioning. Nothing like any of the install videos I watched. And zero literature in the box. I’m going to call Bak in the morning to figure out warranty and all that jazz. So yea I got something I’m dealing with but I’m stubborn and will make it work. Or I’ll get totally pissed and send it back. I chose the MX4 for the ultra low profile and use of the OEM rail. There’s stickers and bumpers barely held on by glue that I’m going to have to fix. Weather stripping that I ripped off because it looked like a 12 year old applied it. The driver side front corner tab is ready to fall off. So far I’m not impressed with the QC at all. This takes the cake in no fucks given and I’m still undecided whether to make it work or shove it back in the box and send it back.

I believe they changed the mount design a while back. I have the X4S and don't recommend it. Lomax trifold or shell imo.

Looks very different than mine. I did need to replace my first lid after hail damage and the replacement looked as if it was built by me first day on the job. The hinges had gaps on the side among other things. I called and sent pics of the problem areas and the lid serial number and they took care of me right away. The replacement was just like the original in quality and far superior to the second. Good luck with your call/ email to customer service.

I do mine every 5K. Per the recommendation of many others, and for my own peace of mind.

I’ll second or third the Lomax suggestion.

Mine is a few years old and still looks brand new, plus I have full use of the cleat rails (which is important to me because I use them to secure stuff in the bed often). Installation was easy with clear instructions. The only water ingress I get is by the corners of the tailgate (which is the fault of the tailgate lack of seals, not the cover).

I don’t know the cost of the MX4, but I’m sure it was comparable to the Lomax. My tolerance for poor QC on a product this expensive is pretty close to zero. If this was a bargain Harbor Freight cover, then yes, I could tolerate a bit of home garage Yankee engineering, but a “premium” Bakflip?

Heck, if I were Backflip I would immediately send you a replacement and a return shipping label for the original just so I could maintain my reputation (and figure out what went so wrong on the manufacturing of the original).

Great looking truck. But with your truck on those ramps at an angle, how do you get all the oil to drain out ? Or is that not an issue ? Just wondering.

Installed 4.5 gallon water pressure water tank. Tank is for utility use/shower (if needed) and the white water jug is for drinking water.

Got the rack and tent back on for next week! Excited to bring my baby to her first camping experience— it’ll just be another drive-in spot with a restroom so it’ll be easier on me and my wife and a smooth transition with the baby haha.

Here are some pictures of my truck with its Yakima racks attached. I put them on in the summer to use with kayaks and take them off in the winter.

Prinsu and other similar racks look better but I like the ability to remove the racks when they aren’t needed.

I'm sorry to see that you're having trouble with installation. The MX4 did see a redesign that no longer includes the "S" brackets to relocate the Deck Rails, but rather installs directly to the rails. Were you able to get in touch with BAK to troubleshoot your install and quality concerns? You can PM me if you'd like.

Not sure on the exact lift height. Deaver mini pack in the rear and front coils set near the rear height.

Seems very cool, but my only apprehension about it is that with my TRD skid having a single hole to get to the oil drain plug, it looks like that heavy cap might be hard to get your fingers up inside the hole to twist it off......and then the hole itself is not too terribly deep and Im not sure you'd even have room to fully unscrew the cap and remove it with the skid in place?
