Sometimes the wiring is provided so the light and fan can be operated separately.

 

Lightning strikes are the most likely consequence of an unused red wire.

One kid cut down a massively overgrown bush 2 days ago and I hauled it to the dump on my way home from work.

The other kid cut down and even more overgrown bush yesterday. It's loaded up to make another dump run shortly.

Two trips to the landfill in two days. I've been to the landfill a grand total of 4 times in my life.

Red wire generally indicates a second switch on that circuit for control from two locations. Did 2 switches control the old fan? Also, does the new one have a light or do you plan on adding one?

 

I tried googling and came up with nothing but I seem to remember somebody trying to knock off big ace fans by calling themselves Hugh jass fans they mighta bit the bullet.

New fan is solid state with specific plugs. Has a potted little computer in it. It has a light kit but it plugs in to the computer. Output from said computer is white black and green only. It has no provision for a switch wire.
As I found this morning, everything is remote controlled. Fan direction, speed, timer, brightness of led, everything.
So, I am kinda glad I didn't hack into any wiring for the red wire switch. We all know what happens if you add one micro ohm of additional resistance or one additional milliamp.
It all works so now I will start mounting the EIGHT blades!
