What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Yeah FJ40 parts are expensive and getting harder to find.

 

My Toyota dealer did Icon Lifts, with SPC Upper Control Arms, BFG K02 All Terrains on my 2023 TRD OffRoad this weekend. Not super high like some people.

 

I did a full detail on my Tacoma today. Decontamination, light polishing and a full Adams ceramic graphene coating.

 

Sorry if dumb question. But is it “time consuming” for ceramic coating? I was considering Adam’s Ceramic Graphene coating myself, but I probraly don’t have enough patience to do it right. I tried the “half a$$” style, using cheaper brand, nobody noticed.

 

Well, “Happy Father’s Day” to all you fathers out there. Maybe take a minute during this early morning when everyone else is still asleep, you are having that first cup of coffee and reminisce about the good times when we were still in the midst of fatherhood (a lot of you still are) mine are grown and moved on, but it was nice to think about…. Now that that is over, I think I will grab another cup of coffee and check and see what upgrades, mods, and general nice to have items are available for my Taco. Happy Fathers Day all.

The time consuming part is the paint prep. The decontamination, the clay bar, the washing and the paint correction and the cure time. It's definitely worth a days work considering how much faster future washes will be.

I actually used Adams ceramic graphene advance coating. It's VERY forgiving. I've used other coatings and the Adams is the easiest I've used. You don't get high spots as easy.

Oil change, tire rotation, greased JBAs and prop shaft. Was a perfect day for it. Good for another 5k.

 

Just crossed 40k on my '22. Was noticing what felt like a little torque converter shudder at around 50-55 MPH. Warning, this is going to sound like an old school math word problem... Drained the ATF, got just under 2 quarts out. Filled with 4 quarts, and checked once temp was around 100 (with XTool Scan Tool). Drained 1 quart out. If my math is correct, I was short 1 quart from the factory. More importantly, the small shudder is gone. If anyone else is having a similar issue, check your fluid level.

 

Installed the Rhino-Rack Sunseeker I bought at Overland Expo PNW 2023 on my RSI Platform Rack just in time to go to Overland Expo PNW 2024. Used some anti-theft bolts from 4x4 Colorado to keep it from walking off.

It feels pretty stable, but I'm not 100% about it. Thoughts?

 

Yesterday and today, I finally transplanted my switch panel into the replacement taco, installed fog lights, hood lights, bed lights, and ooga horn. I don't have the switch for the bed lights yet, but I will order it some time this week. I also installed a 3D printed dash panel for the switch controller. It's white because that's the only colour of PETG I have. This week we have a great wave coming through, and I want to test how this thing is going to handle the heat. I think at some point it'll start to deform, but then I can just replace it with another printed copy, I guess. We'll see.

 

Where'd you get the 3d file from? I think I'm going to try this.

That looks good if I had access to a printer I would give it a shot. Could you just paint it black? My truck is white I would be tempted to just leave it white.

I could paint it, but I like how it looks in white. Besides, I think it will reflect light and not absorb it as heat as much as a black one would, giving it a longer lifespan in the hot car.

It was perfect! Except the top right button slot falls on a piece of metal behind the panel, so it's useless. I can't even fit the blank in there all the way. I'm going to print a shorter blank cap for it, maybe with a Toyota logo, or the taco little truck logo on it.
