08' Clutch Squeak

For the past month when i press and release the clutch pedal there is a very pronounced 'squeaking' noise that is made. The noise is usually louder when the pedal is pressed to the floor then when released. I have noticed that a few people have complained about this issue in previous year models, but was under the impression that the issue was fixed.

The truck only has around 13k on it. I will be taking it to the dealer next month for the 15k service and hopefully they will resolve the issue on the spot. This has been very irritating and although it isn't of much concern otherwise, i would like to resolve the problem asap. Anybody have some suggestions??

 

I had a clutch pedal squeek/creak issue but it was when letting out the clutch, just at the friction point. Annoying as hell when creeping along in traffic. It sounded like the plastic/composite pedal was defective or fatigued when you put pressure on it with your foot. I just kept bitching to Toyota, everytime I took it in. They greased the pivot bushings and rod which did nothing. .....it may have worked for others? Anyway, Toyota eventually ordered/installed a new clutch pedal...now it's finally quiet!! I have had the rear spring tsb, brake squeel tsb, and reflashed cpu for extended cranking and tpms..all in the last month and a half.

 

Thanks for the insight about the clutch pedal. Ill be ready to fire back at the service manager that i have to deal with. He always seems to throw a load of crap at me. Three days after i got the truck (with the upgraded alarm), my truck was broken into. The rear window was smashed, laptop stolen with critical work info, sensitive paperwork gone, AND ALARM STILL ACTIVATED. I was told by him that the alarm would not go off it the window was broke. when i took the factory alarm out, the shock sensor was set to 3, it only adjusts 1-7. Anyways I'm ranting off topic here. I am interested in the details about your CPU flash for cranking and tpms. My two front tpms sensors are apparently 'bad' and i was told they were 'broke' by whom ever installed my tires. I do not believe this is the case. they wanted 350 to install and reprogram the tpms, ON TOP of the 98 dollar diagnostic fee... I have also wondered why my engine cranks over about 3-4 full revolutions before it starts. Hopefully you can give me some insight on these issues. Thanks for the help!

 

Most of the service managers are a real piece of work!....they told me that ALL the new Toyotas both cars and trucks have brake squeel ..lol.. then I slapped down the TSB and he changed his tone...I asked that he stop lying to me as Toyota Corp. has acknowledged there is a problem. Anyway...any other dealerships close? There is a TSB on this forum for extended cranking ( can't think of the number) but it's a pain as a Toyota Tech has to observe it. It was only happening to me once a week or so. Truck would crank over and not start...and then start on second attempt. I just kept taking it back every week. As for TPMS, I had new tires put on ( not at Toyota). My TPMS light was constantly on , pressures were good...even the spare....so, of course I had to ask. They found one faulty sensor and ordered it right away on warranty. The system still didn't work after they installed it, so they focussed on the system module itself and re flashed it. The guys at your dealership sound like dicks! Just keep at it. You may have to phone Toyota Corp. directly and see what they can do. Tell them the sensors were working fine after the new tires were put on. hmmmm (unless it has already being documented that you told Toyota Service otherwise?). They should replace them under warranty. TPMS is a pain in the ass. It's a hassle that you always have to take it in a bunch of times before anything actually gets fixed. I guess the meaning of Customer Service has been lost at some Dealerships.

 

They definitely are a piece of work. I don't understand why they can be such pricks when warranty work is one of their best if not the best form of 'easy' income, especially in this economy.. I am going to try a different dealer, as the one i was referring to recently came under different ownership and i believe this could have been part of the problem. Thankfully if i am not mistaken, there are 7 other Toyota dealers in the metro area.

As far as the extended cranking issue goes, i do not believe this would pertain to my truck. It does take a while to start, but its not like it doesn't actually start. Ill check out the forum though just to be sure.

I had the same problem. I told the service mgr about a TSB for the squeking clutch and it sounded like the same symptoms as my truck. He said they would check it out and get it fixed.
I pick it up later that day and on my way home it starts to squek again!. They just lubed the pedal or clutch. I called Toyota right away. The rep asked what I would like Toyota to do. I told them I wanted the clutch TSB done to fix the clutch.
The next day the dealer called me to set up a time to bring in my truck.
Hope this helps. Tell them what you want and that you are aware of the TSB and I would bring a print out of it with you.

 

I will be sure and print out the TSB before I head over to the dealer. My only worry is that the TSB does not cover the 08 models. Or does it? At least what i draw from the title is that it does not..... They didn't give you any flack when you told them you wanted the TSB done???

 

I told the rep at the 800 number that I wanted the TSB performed instead of just lubing the pedal. All I had to do was bring my truck to the dealer and they replaced it. They were already aware of what they were doing to my truck when I got there.
