Asus and Corsair also have a line of hotswap boards now. It's pretty great when the main line companies offer that.

I know this is noob 1.0 level in here but my job asked me to set up some ASUS ROG STRIX machines to do 3D printing. Any suggestions on doing this? I’m getting the first one booted up already. For some reason the top HDMI port didn’t send a signal to the monitor but one of the other lower two did.

You mean the HDMI on the motherboard? With a graphics card installed, some motherboards default to the installed card and disable the on-board output.

This can remedied by forcing it enabled in bios or even in the computer itself, or uninstalling the graphics card.

Just use the graphics card. You gain nothing using the motherboard's output (which uses the cpu).

Back then, a lot of cpu's didn't even have built-in graphics or some motherboards didn't have the chipset to support said graphics.

You'll notice in my pc on the far left, I placed a red X because there is no on-board graphics

    20240612_092209.jpg

The center and right one support on-board graphics provided the cpu used has integrated graphics. This can be helpful when diagnosing a computer and you're pulling components out (such as a graphics card for starters).

In cyan, I circled all the available ports from the graphics cards that are installed in those computers.

    Damn, way overpriced

That cpu has gone on sale many times on Amazon even (as well as Newegg) for under $300

That WD is commanding the price of the Samsung Pro, and I won't get into the other components

Thanks it made total sense when you said that. I’ve been on the fence about building a computer for 4-5 years but all my work relies on the Apple ecosystem with iPads and my phone so I never had the motivation to do it. Can’t say how many videos I’ve watched on parts and builds but still I haven’t had my hands on anything like this before. Gonna wait for IT to come by and put in the Microsoft licenses and I’ll study up on 3D printing until then. These are our printers - any experience with these?

Don't know anything about 3D printing but the people here are really knowledgeable

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/what-did-you-3d-print-today.716259/page-24

@Rock Lobster is my go to for all my 3D printing

As for computers, it's practically like putting legos together these past 10 years than it was over 20 years ago

Everything is dummy proof; they even have on-board displays on motherboards to tell you what an error is if for some reason it didn't fire up at all

Seems M$ pushed the update to Win 11 on my mother's laptop yesterday. Wi-Fi would connect to the router, but no Internet. Disabling ipv6 fixed the issue. Seems to be a common issue after updating to Win 11.

Hey guys another noob question (and the director of my school told me that IT had told him to buy the ASUS machines as long as he got them one too - take that how you will).

So I had all three machines connected to wifi wating for the Microsoft account sign in on this page:

    upload_2024-6-17_9-19-24.png

I called and they said they were going to have to come over and do something (they said they couldn't just give me a company account to log in with).

I get here this week and only one computer is logged in and when I went to connect to the internet, there's no wifi options, only these options:

    upload_2024-6-17_9-21-29.png

How did they make the wifi option disappear? I had all three connected last week before being able to sign into Microsoft. Then when I went to another computer, they had actually gone backwards in the steps I had already done like naming the computer and when I got to the connect to wifi page, I found this:

    upload_2024-6-17_9-17-49.png

The wifi network "IRL Staff" is the very same one I'm posting this from on my mac. Any suggestions?

On a positive note, I got our "Playschool" printer going

    upload_2024-6-17_9-24-55.png

    So that's a partial win...

Do the machines have a wifi card or a motherboard with Wifi?

    Is wifi turned on?

A potential fix is to rollback the network adapter driver if an update they performed touched that potentially.

Hard to say (I know what you’re saying but not how to identify)

I connected all of them last week when I got to the screen for logging into Microsoft.

It was on wifi last week?

Can you share a pick of the back of the I/O panel?

    Is there an antenna?
