    Good news and bad news.

Good news is the parts I ordered from RMATVMC arrived. I ordered the bolts to replace the stupid tank bag ring that the first owner put on.

I got the one bolt clear after the previous owner broke the allen wrench off in it, and they half stripped another, but I got that out too. Victory in sight, I popped the bag lock off and set about replacing the bolts with OEM ones.

And that's when I realized I fucked up. The cap ring on the bike snapped in two places as I was putting in the bolts. The circled cracks are a complete break. The ring is in two pieces.

    20240617_143904.jpg

The two missing bolts aren't actually attached to anything. Just looks. So the longer bolts, which are the only ones on the part diagram, that I ordered go through and push on the tank. That snapped the cap assembly. I'm pissed that I didn't see that.

    Screenshot_20240617_144112_Samsung Internet.jpg

Cap assembly is over a week before it ships, and then more time after that. Plus, the long bolt effed the paint on top of the tank.

    I hate Mondays.

Have you thought about replacing with aftermarket? For about the same price, you can get one that doesn't require screwing with the key every time you want to get gas.

    This showed up today.

Install was easy, spring wasn't nearly as tough as everyone on the internet made it out to be. A set of Vise Grips and a good tug and it went right on.

Overall, looks good, nice welds, fit seems good. But I was hoping for a bit more tire lift. There is barely a quarter inch. Next tire size up prolly won't clear.

Prolly the easiest thing to do will be to just weld a couple washers or something similar to the feet to get an extra half inch. For the price and the quality, I'll make it work.

Thats a good center stand. I got one on the KLR that Arnold Schwartzengruber would shit his pants trying to get it on with loaded bags. My F800 just pops up standing on it, I suspect that one will do the same.

Looks like lots of fun motorcycle things happened this weekend, great to see. I rode on Saturday with my two supermoto buddies plus another one of their friends. It's been fun riding with them I've learned a few new routes to take with some narrow twisty roads. That's where the 701 shines so I had to take that out. Other three bikes were a 690, DRZ, and the new guy I met had a Speed Triple 1050.

Also I'm off Wednesday so planning to wake up early and get out for a ride before the heat sets in.

    This one was this morning.

Inside looks the same as 2011, they just locked the doors and walked away. Owner passed back in 07, his wife could not bear to sell, they owned the building so they just locked the doors. A peep inside through the window.

    +1

Also good for a bike with an electronic locking cap you want to ditch. I have a Driven Racing cap on my Super Duke for this reason, would suck for that system to fail when you're out somewhere and can't get the cap off to refuel your bike.

I like the key for it. Makes me not forget the key since the bike only came with one.

I didn't think about it but I'll probably have to move the core out of the old one to s new one. :annoyed: this day just keeps getting better.

The price isn't the issue. The delay is. I'd pay full msrp if I could get it tomorrow. I'd like to have this all buttoned up so I can get new tires and scrub them in before my trip in a week or two.

All good. I'll be calling around tomorrow to see if somebody has one in stock. Doubt it, but maybe I'll be lucky once Monday is over. Lol

Go get a spare key or 2 made ASAP! You don't want to mess around and lose or break the only key you have.

Check the part number and see if it's the same as the FJR1300 as it looks identical. Not sure if that will help you or not.

That Ebay listing I posted shows a half dozen FJR1300's that fit the same cap.
