I just purchased a 2021 Tacoma MT. Got the squeaky clutch going on. I have been digging around on the forums and found many reports of disk break grease fixing it. So this is something I have as an option to do, but I'm curious if the dealership will be responsible for fixing it.

The truck was "certified" by Toyota so I'm wondering if anyone has any insight as to them "having" to fix it for me. My salesman is a pretty nice guy and I plan on contacting him Monday, so we will see, but there are two TSB's on the issue. Kind of hoping between that and it being "certified" that they will just take care of it.

I am confused by the TSB's though, all I can find is one from 2019 that covers 2005-2019 Tacomas. Then a random "half-ass" seeming one for 2020-2023 Tacomas that claims the same issues that doesn't get into the same details and explanation of fixing it. If they knew of the issue in 2019, I'm not sure why they were still pumping them out with squeaky clutches, or why the TSB's are different.

    Appreciate any insight!

I found them from searching around on the forums/google.

Just get some lithium grease use it on the actuator above pedal it has a rubbber boot and a rod … repeat when it comes back …don’t bother with dealer they won’t replace the clutch assembly . If they do it will just come back . I know this cause mine was replaced with a new one. The noise came back .the noise u are hearing is the boot being dry against the metal rod .

The dealership will likely replace the whole clutch pedal assembly with one just like the one you already have. They won't grease it and the problem will come back. Also, you'll be without your truck for the day and have to deal with the dealership.

I think I was the first one to post about the brake grease back in 2016. I had to do the same thing on my 95 Tacoma. My advice is to buy the grease, do it yourself and don't waste your time at the dealership. You can fix it in 5 minutes with a better fix than you'll get at the dealership.

Thanks for the insight, have you tried the disc brake high temp grease? People on here have reported using that and it never coming back.

There's nothing special about that grease. I used it because it comes with an applicator brush in the lid that makes the whole thing stupid easy. It also smells good... at least it does to me.

I was concerned about this, not sure why the TSB I posted has them replacing things if it's just the same shit everyone is having the issue with lol

I’m a bit cautious about using a brake part grease on the rubber boot area . Not sure what the long term effect would be on the rubber part using a high temperature grease that is designed for brake parts . I just stick with the lithium grease . It only takes a few minutes to apply it and I don’t have to worry about what if .

I used some white lithium grease that I already had and 5 minutes of poking my head under the dash to figure out what parts were squeaking. Over a year since it's been squeaking.

I wonder if mine squeaks. I honestly don't pay any attention to it.

You will know when it happens. On warm days, it was loud, like a door creaking in your house. That's how loud mine became. On cold days, you could feel the clutch pedal binding while releasing in 1st gear. My problems started in the 2nd year of ownership, around 3000 miles from new. The problem got worse in year 3 of ownership. At this time, I was driving very little as it was during the height of the pandemic (2020-2021 time frame). During on of my oil changes at the dealer, I brought up the clutch issue to my service advisor. He didn't know anything about it. He had a Master Tech look at it and even though it was a cold day, with very little noise, the Tech felt the binding. I left the truck with them and an hour later, they called reporting the TSB info. The truck now has 15k miles and I haven't had an issue since.

Do you know if they replaced everything or just applied grease? Assuming by the hour time frame they just lubed it up.

My 2nd gen had the squeak but my 3rd doesn't (listened for it today). I'd try greasing it myself before I let some d-bag at the dealer mess it up.

Under the TSB, everything was replaced. The whole clutch assembly.

As stated by some others, the TSB they will perform won’t accomplish anything useful. The 2021 had all the latest parts up until they came out with an updated master cylinder part number for the latest TSB. Which is dumb, because the MC wasn’t the problem.

My clutch pedal started to groan at about 14K miles. I greased it and it went silent until I got rid of that pedal for the metal FJ pedal instead at about 35 or 36K miles. So I’d say the grease worked.

Pack some grease into the back of the void in the pedal where the MC nub rests. I used disc brake grease. You can also slather some on the spring and clip pivot at the very top of the pedal. That is the rod the spring clips to.

Makes me wonder if this is how dealerships are replacing these or if they're putting the same one in. I've got an appointment for them to check/replace it Thursday, since it's certified, figure I might as well take the free 0 mile replacement parts. If the new ends up squeaking also, I'll lube 'er up.
