What’s the best respirator for sanding? I used a disposable N95 mask last week, but I don’t think it was good enough. I’m still having shortness of breath and chest tightness.

Recommended this more than enough times to many members of the forum; easily the best, most secure mask I've ever used -

    20240617_181513.jpg

It's especially great under a welding helmet, yet roomy enough to allow for facial hair.

Used to have a 3M mask that was alright, but tugged hard on facial hair and didn't seal well.

Are you sanding asbestos? An N95 is typically more than enough for regular wood dust in an environment that isn't 100% sealed.

No they're just old bald cypress cross sections. I'm wondering if I got a fungal or bacterial infection though, since they were kinda old and rotten. I might do an antifungal sinus flush.

That looks pretty serious. Is that for dust though, or more for toxic metallic fumes, etc.?

    Of course.

It's used for metal working which means grinding = metal dust

Being a P100 filter means it filters out more crap than an N95 including mold spores, lead, and like Zane mentioned...asbestos.

You can find cheaper masks that utilize a P100 filter, and/or allow a wider use of different filters but I opted for my Lincoln mask for the reasons stated above in my initial response.

Used my weed whacker for the first time today and threw the mask on cause I hate getting hit with that pollen/etc and sneezing like crazy.

Mask kept everything out, without issue.

I might order one then. Do they come with cartridges? Also, I’m guessing they’re not too bad in the heat, since you just wore it in the yard.

Any and all P100 cartridges will resist breathing more than an N95, because they filter out a lot more

What I like about my specific mask is that it breaths easier than the 3M P100 mask it replaced, so take that for what it's worth

And yes, the cartridges are included and are pretty big so they'll last for quite a bit
