18V or 40V? I replaced my Stihl weed eater with a 40V Ryobi and have no regrets

40v that’s the first time it’s shut off on me without having a dead battery. Did it twice. It was a little heavier stuff, so maybe that contributed to. It’s been fairly impressive besides that though. My expectations were super low though.

    I hear you guys....

All my sthil saws are switch to bottom pull.. it hits... Move up 1 position & then pull & it starts.

The blower & weed beaters all have the bubble, so they are 8 pumps then same procedure.

They always start for me & are really good machines.

This will get some frowny faces, but gonna ask anyway:

How many of you use universal additive for your 2 cycle fuel?

Found a nylon webbing belt for a dog treat bag and made door pulls today . Now I can open without the special feature of key stays in when in the open position. Used staple gun to hold in place.

Any lights flashing on the battery? Sometimes when the tool calls for more power than what the battery has to give, they shut off. My lawnmower has done that once.

Not that I was able to see. It would make sense though. Thick grass, heat and a battery that was getting into the 1/4 charge range.

On a side note my old Ryobi compression tested at 65 PSI, so who knows. I’d hate to spend $400 on new when simmering cheap would keep this old girl running for a few more years. Maybe I’ll do a new carb and clutch if I can find one and see what that does for me.

I use this in all my gas cans and small engines. I have a lot of gas cans, several chainsaws, and small engines, I've only had problems with one chainsaw. A Stihl MS170, it's on it's 3rd carb.

I have heard the marine version of Sta-Bil is better than the red version. I only have experience with the red.

I only use normal - non-ethanol - fuel in all my small engines. It seems to make a difference - easier starting, smoother running.

For my 2-strokes, I use Stihl oil mix, which contains stabilizer, so I don't use Sta-Bil in this gas.

Running ethanol free has solved most of my issues. It can even sit all winter un-treated and everything will start. 2 strokes get Echo Red Armor oil which may or may not have a stabilizer in it.

Like all you guys... I use the non ethanol fuel for all the stuff. Never needed a fuel stabilizer for 2 cycle stuff.

YES I get the 8pack of Stihl 2 cycle oil everytime I buy something as part of their warranty & Stihl club membership.

But after we run thru it? Cause we go thru a lot of fuel.... we use the synthetic 2 cycle oil stuff. It covers all ratios & you never need a different mix that way or grab the wrong can.

Now my diesel fuels? That's a different story. I'm an additive MFr there.

My 2003 Duramax, the fuel pressure regulator sticks if I don't put an additive in it. The last couple tanks I forgot to add some.

I ask my wife to go pick up something the other day with it while I was at work, she said your truck is acting weird, high idle, jerky, check engine light came on, ugh.

I drove it a couple days later and it was fine. Then a few days later we all went somewhere in it and it started acting up and it dawned on me why it was acting up.

I looked in the toolbox and the only thing I had was automatic transmission fluid so I poured some of that in it. Been fine ever since :D

I’m with you fellers. Ethanol free in everything except my cars. The fuel lines all look and feel new, my chainsaws that sit way longer than I’d like all start up after easily after sitting 6 months- year, and my generator when I had it never struggled either. Maybe I made a fuel oil mix that was a little too heavy or something. Does the 2 stroke oil go bad? I did buy a bunch from a yard sale a couple of years ago and have been using that.
