DIY Sway Bar Disconnect

So... Who is gonna be the first one to remove the sway bar to see how it drives without it?

Toyota finally put a sway bar disconnect on a Tacoma because the owners of all the previous gens kept taking them off and trashing them.

I wonder if no sway bar at all has more flex than the OEM sway bar disconnect?

 

Unfortunately, finding a 24 Tacoma with the sway bar disconnect as a preinstalled option is like finding a needle in a haystack of needles. I was looking for one. Very difficult to locate. This was a few months ago, so YMMV.

 

its only a matter of time before tacomabeast is selling a aftermarket auto disconnect kit for $2k

 

I wonder why it would?

Unbolting the rear sway on my Solo II car was no different than full removal (other than a bit of weight)

 

Flex is one thing but off/pavement stability is another.

all you need to do is remove one link but there’s still fear from 2nd/3rd gen. The sway bar would dig into the cv axle on the first turn lol

I removed mine all together from my 09 and it just drove like a truck on the street and then off road it really came alive with the SPC UCA's

I had the Baja 2.5 shocks too and that might've helped it some.

Another benefit was it didn't seem to wear the front tires so much.

I'm just throwing these ideas out there so someone will try it and I can watch!

 

I uh, can verify this to be correct...

 

I think it only can disconnect when you are in low range, or maybe it was only under 35 MPH? Anyone know?

 

When you take it off and leave it in your garage you can go as fast as you want.

It's even a free option!

There is always the argument about snap oversteer or understeer or flipping the truck, but 2 whole generations of Tacoma owners have managed to do it and not die.

It is standard on the Pro and TH and an option on the OR. Just for clarification.

 

The OEM sway bar disconnect doesn't affect the rear sway bar, so you'll have more flex on an RTI ramp if you delete it. Real world effect may be minimal.
