3rd Gen: Suspension Differences - TRD-Trail vs TRD-OR

When I was shopping for my 23 Taco, I originally wanted the TRD Trail Edition (TRD-TE here on out). They were hard to find and I was in a time constraint so I settled for a TRD-OR. TBH, I probably like the TRD-OR better.

But what has had me wondering was that the TRD-TE had a higher lift from the factory as one of the key features between it and the TRD-OR. What is on the TRD-TE suspension that makes it ride an inch or two higher? Is it just an adjustment? Is it just a coil spacer? Or was it a totally different set up from the frame outward?

How hard and how much $$ would it be to set the TRD-OR up like the TRD-TE?

 

Trail edition has a taller coil in the front, (1.1 in) and a small rear block in the back (1/2in)
For your off-road you can do as simple as a half inch strut spacer in the front which will give 1 inch or lift and the half inch oem block in the back. This is my truck with that setup: 1/2 inch spacers aren’t going to change your ride or cause any major problems. But some refuse to put any type of spacers so in that case I’d just do billstein 5100s all around set to the third setting up front (1.1in) and the half inch rear block.

Yup, but for me I used a streetrays kit because it came with different nuts, because when you put the spacer on top of the strut the studs have less threads poking out the top, and the oem nuts are too long.

FYI... Pretty sure the Trail Edition is not a TRD. It's based on the SR5. I mean its a slightly higher lift than a stock TRD OR. If you want something subtle to lift it with, go with the TRD lift or 5100s. I have the TRD lift and it sits higher than the Trail Edition or TRD Pro

 

Heh? You may be on to something. I assumed everything above SR5 was TRD since Toyota makes so many but now that you mention it, I too think I remember it being a non-TRD model when I was looking for it.
