Yeah I do a 1/3 every year and split with 2 buddies. The ranch I get it from uses Westcliffe Meats for processing. They used to be waaaay cheaper at like .60 cents a pound, they're up to $1.10 now but they use vacuumed sealed packaging vs freezer paper. Less of a mess thawing and stays frozen better. For game I use Ted Baker's Meats in Peyton. Unless I'm able to hunt on the ranch I get the beef from, then the fam and I all help out processing each others harvests.

    Incoming derailment:

Does CO brine their dirt/graded/fire roads for dust control? I can't find a clear answer on this, just curious if they're good to go or proceed with caution. They brine dirt out here and you can hear stamped sheetmetal dissolving if the wind is calm..

I dont mind getting wet. I've only got a handheld walkie, and had a client schedule a last minute meeting at 11 in aurora. That said leaving ACO at noon ish probably gives me a 1300-1330 start time.
I'll be fully loaded with camping shit lol

If you're good with afternoon I'm in.

Things here will rust slower though due to the dry climate. If that eases your mind.

Now that I'm back from the other side of the pond I'm tasked with yet another costal bumper build. Currently extending the frame rails with strong 1/4" plate that won't rip off like the stock extension pieces do. I've realized that this bumper was a terrible ideal since I'm doing the SAS this winter. Whatever ill make it fit when that time comes I suppose.

You're a midwesterner? Everyone who comes here from the midwest is astounded at the lack of rust on cars. It exists, but it's an order of magnitude (maybe two) less of an issue than you're used to (source: 30 years in Wisconsin and Illinois).

If you're worried, a few bucks hosing off the undercarriage at a car wash is a good investment. I do that after driving on a snow-treated highway or after spending a day on dirt roads (mostly for dust there, but if it's cleaning off brine too then bonus). Some of the more creative folks like to put a lawn sprinkler under their vehicles at home.

Let's aim for 1300-ish at the trailhead. I'm good with walkies. I have a spare if needed.

If anyone else is interested, you're welcome to join.

I'm not really sure what I identify as..grew up midwest but spent most of my adult life on the west coast after school...anyway, that doesn't matter - but I will never forget the first time I looked under an old car after moving to Seattle. Blew my mind after having worked on rust buckets all my youth, I vowed then and there never again! This one I am getting has 200k on the clock and yet it's so clean, I almost feel bad bringing it back here. The plan is to get it back and immediately in to the shop for its first Krown application, so while it makes me grit my teeth, a day or two out in the dirt isn't going to be too big of a deal.

Is the trailhead at the Campground? I'm heading up earlier in the morning and should be able to meet up with you guys.

    Directions:

Take Highway 119 north from Black Hawk. Turn left on Missouri Gulch Road, C.R. 15S, less than 1 mile after mile marker 10. Drive in 0.8 mile and turn left at sign for Pickle Gulch Group Campground. Continue another 0.3 mile, staying right past campground to wide spot at end of road. Ignore gated road to left. Trail is straight ahead in dense trees.

onX classifies it as 7/10: Difficult. Applies to two sections, which can be bypassed. Tight brush and several narrow steep climbs. Not recommended for shiny new SUVs or oversize vehicles.

I'm on 35s with front/rear lockers and have no hesitancy running it solo. There are a couple of off-camber parts that might feel sketchy if you choose your line poorly. There's one climb that's like a washed out v-notch that can put you in some flexy positions. Might require some back and forth to work through without lockers. There are bypasses, so I'm sure the whole trail can be run without lockers.
